I have loved all of the other Lucy Knisley books i have read. This one was great as well, but something about just bugged me.

I like it when authors and illustrators really let you into their everyday life. This book was like chatting with a friend during the year of planning her wedding. Lucy, as an artist and general non-conformist, wanted to pick and choose the elements of a wedding that resonated with her and her partner. Lots of things were DIY and she relied on many artsy and foodie friends too. It was cool to see real photos interspersed with the illustrations!

12 books completed in January for me. Not bad considering I had company at my house for half the month.

I got married back in 2007 so it‘s been a minute since I‘ve really thought about wedding stuff. This book though was so so great. I adore everything about Lucy Knisley‘s books. Accurate yet sweet portrayal of the craziness involved with planning a big wedding. Funny and heartfelt. I also liked seeing the real pics from her wedding day included in the book. So much fun!! I loved it! 5⭐️

What a great graphic memoir about trying to plan a wedding that fits who you are but doesn't break the bank. Knisley's drawings, like her words, are precise, with just enough detail. Topics range from fun facts about wedding traditions around the world to fighting with your mom about her inviting the whole neighbourhood to making crafty decorations to how to reconcile a bisexual feminist identity with the hetero/sexist institution of marriage.

By far the best Lucy Knisley book I have read to date. I definitely should've read this before I got married but I basically did kinda the same things she did when she got married. Crafty, low cost, wedding in the backyard. It was awesome reading what she went through before the wedding, all the trials and tribulations... plus the stress of finding the dress! Loved the actual pictures from the wedding.

Placed an order yesterday for a little something for myself, along with some sage oil because I‘ve been obsessed with sage recently. ☺️🌱 Incidentally, the book is a favorite of mine that I‘m giving as a gift. 🎁

Have a bit of a theme here for #somethingnew today. Up top, my Harry Potter shelf got a major update thanks to @Endowarrior21 😍 And on the bottom, HP Ravenclaw edition vans Andrew surprised me with that are doubling as my wedding shoes and my “something blue”. And yet another subtle way we‘re inserting HP into our wedding. Now the hard part is not wearing them until then!

I have been on a Lucy Knisley kick lately, but I am reading them all out of order. Finally feeling like myself again after having my gallbladder and gallstones removed last week. Marvel has been about this close the whole time. I definitely have a good reading partner/snuggle buddy.

As someone who is engaged, a lot of things in this graphic wedding memoir were pretty relatable. However, I felt like some depth was lacking - she doesn‘t really dive into some potentially interesting/heavy topics that she touches on, like her parents‘ relationships or the perception of bisexuality in the context of marriage. But the art is charming and she and her husband seem like genuinely good people!

This book was hilarious and delightful, even for a happily unmarried person like me. Like Lucy, I'm someone who has never felt the desire to be married, but I love the traditions of it: the coming together to commit your life, the celebratation of ones family and friends in a unique experience that will probably never be echoed again. To see your friends "make serious promises of love to one another is a very lovely gift."

Another graphic memoir! After reading this I feel like Lucy is an old friend and I was personally invited to her wedding. It certainly reminded me of planning my wedding almost 20 years ago.

It was really great to read this graphic novel about the author's experience planning her wedding. Knisley talks about being hesitant with lots of patriarchal traditions and the expenses of weddings. It doesn't try to make planning weddings sound like a magical, fun adventure while still not putting down other brides.

I was recommending Lucy Knisley to a library patron the other day and realized I still hadn't read this. Something New is a memoir of Lucy and John's experience planning and having their wedding, complete with all the questions inherent in that. How much input should family give? Which traditions are useful and which just relics of a sexist past? How much should you spend, and on what? This might be my new favorite of Knisley's graphic memoirs.

Guys, I'm so obsessed with Lucy Knisley these days...it's a problem. I WANT MORE BOOKS!! I loved Something New, not just because it was sweet and well written, but because by now I was invested in her life and the people she knows. It was amazing to see this next stage in her life and how she went about it, especially little details she doesn't point to, like how they have a Vespa now?!?!! She mentioned wanting one in an earlier book! ❤️❤️❤️

Reading Something New right now bc it's late and I can't focus on a big block of text. But it makes me want to go make a wedding Pinterest board!!! But in the middle of this #24in48 readathon, I really need to be reading or sleeping, those are my main options. 😂 Maybe I'll make one tomorrow while I listen to an audiobook? 🤔

Lucy Knisley's graphic memoir about planing her wedding was amazing. As someone who is currently planning a wedding I connected with so much of this book. Knisley covers everything from the struggle to make things unique, to rain at an outdoor ceremony, to whether or not tacos are acceptable wedding food. I will be giving this book to every friend who gets engaged fron here on out, because it's pretty much perfect. I might have cried at the end...

This is literally exactly what I've been dealing with the last few weeks. Why isn't "wedding" theme enough? Apparently, because my shower is on St. Patrick's Day the theme is going to be leprechauns. I kid you not. And because I love my future mother-in-law I'm just going to go with it. ??

I'm loving this graphic memoir about wedding planning. So many of these things are on point with what the fiance and I are going through right now. 👰🤵

My top nine from 2017. All non-graphic novels were audiobooks as my ability to concentrate on words evaporated near the beginning of the year, as did my attention to my reading challenges. I haven't finished my tally for the end of the year but I'm sure I came up short of my goal. I keep reminding myself that I'm doing this for fun, not to check off boxes, and that they're not assignments. Here's to a new year that's not as crappy as the last one!

With retail craziness at work, and back-to-back house guests at home... I needed a little light reading...
Just finished a Lucy Knisley double-bill.... Neither lived up to the lofty heights of ‘Relish‘ (which I adored 😍😍)... but both were charming, her illustrations are wonderful and her love of food and family shines through... 💕

I absolutely loved this graphic novel. I love her illustrations and the way she tells her story. Having gotten married a month ago and *hating* the planning process because I am not a traditional person who buys into the wedding industry and all its "shoulds," this was a very relatable and cathartic read for me. Recommended for all non-traditional brides, and one to buy for my shelf.

Adorable. I love Lucy Knisley's style, it's just so tiny and perfect and cute! Just have one left I haven't read yet, but my library doesn't have it so I'll have to do some digging!

This was hilarious and at times mind boggling - the world of wedding planning is a weird place 😂 Mostly I loved this book for how relatable Lucy Knisley made it. Weather you're planning a wedding or not it's a fun read.

I thought this #graphicnovel was a sweet read. Focusing on her preparations for her wedding, Knisley relates the ups and downs of her wedding planning with in a way that's both heartwarming and hilarious. I think this would be an interesting read for newly engaged readers.

I'm not sure if this graphic novel is going to scare me or not. Recently engaged, and not looking forward to how expensive and crazy overwhelming wedding planning can be. I'm sure this will at least have me laughing. 🤗

I adore Lucy Knisely's graphic memoirs. Some work for me a bit more than others, but this was definitely an enjoyable one. It explores her relationship with John and their wedding planning journey, with tidbits about weddings traditions throughout history. One thing I loved was her use of real photographs in this book. A bit long but very satisfying, happy read. I returned the book to library so here is Mr. Z and me on our Vegas elopement.
