Queen Sugar: A Novel | Natalie Baszile
Pickpick

This story was fantastic! I enjoyed The tone of the book and learning about sugar cane. The ending was unexpected and left me wondering if there will ever be more to the story. Not sure if I want to watch the show on OWN. I loved this story as is and I‘d hate to see it changed. The only downside I have about this book is that the ending felt a bit rushed. Otherwise, this book is great to listen to.

Enjoying my day off by sitting in the park and reading. First part is a touch slow but I hear the pace picks up after a bit

ErikasMindfulShelf It was great on audio! 7y
SheReads2 @irre Yes! That's good to know. Maybe I'll alternate between book and audio. 7y

When I started this book, I wasn't sure if I was ready for an end to this series. Nevertheless, I absolutely love this book and the entire world that Ms. Dark has created. Can't wait to move on to the Mageri series now.

Book 4 of the Lunar Chronicles. Ending was a little different than I imagined when I first started the series but it's still a great read.

I loved this book. When I first downloaded the audiobook, I was worried that the story was going to drag because it was longer than I expected. No dragging, no bore, so many laughs and so romantic. I recommend this book to anyone in a reading slump who are okay with NA romance.

I listened to this book on audio because I needed something to listen to while at work. This book is not like and should not be compared to the Hunger Games. While there are some similar aspects this book is its own. Given that, it was suspenseful in some parts, particularly towards the end. Some of the characters quickly got on my nerves but the story is well told. Not a fan of the audiobook narrator though.

Wonderfully strange and entertaining. I really enjoyed this book and I wish I hadn't let it sit on my shelf for so long. My only con about this book is that the first 100 pages or so seemed a little slow. After that the action and adventure didn't stop.

Homegoing: A novel | Yaa Gyasi

I loved this book. Homegoing follows two sisters from two different villages in 18th century Ghana. One sister is sold into slavery and the other marries an Englishman and moves to Cape Coast Castle. The book tells the stories of different individuals from each sister and each generation. Gyasi did an amazing job in telling a story about family, love and how our decisions affect others after us. My current (and much needed) re-read. I feel a little bad for pausing my other current read but then I realize that reading something that makes me happy is the best therapy for me right now.

That moment that makes you want to shout "Finally!".

"I had lost my knife, but I was still Darre. I whipped around and hit her so hard that one of her heeled shoes came off as she sprawled across the floor."

Chachic LOL that was a good scene. You go, Yeine! 8y
Seansworth I literally clapped and shouted when I got to this part last night! Scimina is the world's WORST. 7y

I'm enjoying this book so much that not only do I not want it to end, but I really want to read her other books and other Afrofuturism books. Why'd it take me so long to pick up her books??? Book suggestions?

SGJ Rest of that trilogy's about as good as it gets. 8y

It's nice to read a book and literally laugh out loud at the scene the author puts in your head.
