The best modern enemies to lovers I‘ve read. One of my new favorites.

This one was middle of the road for me. I didn‘t care for their “hate” relationship at all. Once things started heating up it got better, but I never fell in love with it.

How fun is a rom com that starts as thinking its mutual hatred only to turn around and be the start of this couples love story. Im a sucker for books that draw you in and you cant put down, usually this doesnt happen in rom coms for me, but this was great!

There‘s a fine line between love and hate, as Lucy finds out in this cute romance that kept me up way past my bedtime. I really enjoyed it, but I don‘t think it‘s gonna be super memorable for me, and definitely not worth the lack of sleep this morning. (It‘s so hard for me to put down a romance once it gets going, though!!) 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼1/2

Zelma I‘m the same way with romances. They are like a bag of chips or bowl of ice cream; I want to just devour after I start one. 1mo

This was a fun book; however, in a rom-com I typically imagine beautiful people. For me, it detracts from an otherwise good yarn when the author repeatedly details the physical beauty of their characters. I kept thinking if she left out 75% of the beauty descriptors, there may have been space for Josh‘s perspective in the story. Still a pick, though.

Centique I get that feeling often too. Yup, they‘re beautiful, got it, don‘t need to keep telling me every other page about his sparkling eyes or her pouty lips. 😂 2mo
marleed @Centique Haha! And let‘s not a tight ass! The dangly tips of my stars start dropping off if while I read I‘m wondering about the editing process. 2mo

For a genre I typically despise, I immensely enjoyed this book.

Yes, it was still cheesy. Yes, there were still parts which I rolled my eyes at. Yes, it was still exceedingly predictable.

BUT Sally added some humor and reality to this that made me not want to barf or gouge out my eyes. And for me to say that is major in the Contemporary Romance Genre.

marleed I just finished this one! 3mo

I wasn‘t expecting to like it, it was just supposed to be light book between too heavy ones, but I like it A LOT. It‘s actually the first rom-com book I‘ve ever liked 😮

Kaylamburson I thought the movie was still really far out. There's already a MTI?? 3mo
MySharonaK @Kaylamburson Yeah, I think the movie is still far out. These two are just models for the book cover, they are not the actors (edited) 3mo

A very good Rom-Com. Though it took few pages to understand the author's way of portraying the characters... I enjoyed it since then. I couldn't control the tears out of laughter in some scenes. I was very happy to know about the book and I hope even you feel the same.😛

16 books read in July! And my #JulyFavorite, (rereads don‘t count!) is The Hating Game! I‘ve always been a sucker for an “enemies to lovers” romance - IF done right. This is a quintessential example of the trope done right. I wasn‘t sure at the start, Lucy seemed a bit too negative for me, but I‘m so glad I kept reading! So very worth it! If you love a sexy slow burn, and you haven‘t already, read this! Lookin at you @Nessavamusic

Now I understand how my friends who read a lot of romance novels get through so many books in a year! I barreled through this one in basically two sittings. Although it was incredibly unrealistic & overdramatic, it was also fun & flirty & sexy, so I think it covered all the romance bases!

#currentlyreading This is one of the very rare times I am detouring from my list & reading something that is no where on there. The library where I work is about to start letting patrons check out pre-loaded genre-specific Kindles (so cool!), and I volunteered to take one & see what reading on it was like. I have the romance Kindle, & The Hating Game was the first one listed, so here we are! Hoping for a fun, flirty eRead!

It‘s funny because I lived THIS EXACT SCENARIO in my 20s but without a hot dude to fall in love with: I was a production assistant at a boutique advertising agency that merged with a lame big box corporate one and was a true nemesis with the other PA. He was an absolute troll and I high tailed it outta there, finding another job ASAP 😁 Though I wish I had the forethought and talent to turn it into an adorable and steamy love story 👍👍

Lucy & Josh: Givin‘ love a bad name, Bon Jovi style lol! ♥️🤣 this was amazing on audiobook! I laughed out loud so many times, my husband actually started laughing at me!!! 😂 It does start out with lots of tropes/cliches and the story is a bit slow in the middle... but the beauty here is such fun, well developed characters, laugh out loud dialogue and meant for each other main characters. I was rooting for them the whole time 🤗

Cutesy, romancy, a lil‘ bit sexy and lots of fun. Although the story was predictable from the start, the build up created an enjoyable journey to the conclusion. I think anyone who works in an office environment will recognise and appreciate some of the power games played by the two main characters. A respectable 3⭐️s for this light, easy to listen to audiobook.

I had heart-shaped pupils pretty much throughout the whole time I've read it. Smart reenactment of the good old-fashioned Benedict/Beatrice hate-fuelled love narrative. Thorne creates characters with real vulnerabilities and is able to write intelligently structured and worded sex scenes which I greatly appreciated. Though idillyc the scenes are tasteful and true to the characters she created. will revisit this humorous sexiness of a novel.

Definitely "mixed reviews" when it comes to this one. The first 3/4 shows how childish the characters are and was painful for a feminist (such as I) to read. Then the last quarter is so good, I ended up liking it in spite of myself. Still, the whole Mr Darcy-esque 'treat em mean, keep em keen' trope has to end and any woman who is attracted by that nonsense should take a long hard look in the mirror.

Reggie I liked when she stands up for him against the father. Lol, what does she say? Peace we out. Lol or something like that. 8mo

Quick read. Or maybe it's because it was the second time I read it. Plus the pressure to finish before it was due at library. Loved the variety of games the couple played, even though they were probably ask in Lucy's head. Wish there were Josh POVs, just so we could get his thoughts when they played some of the games.

I've been in a bit of a book slump recently, so I decided to listen to a romance audiobook. I'll admit for the first few chapters I almost put it down because the workplaces are not like that in real life, and it really bothered me, but the main characters' interactions were so good that I kept listening.

I'm glad I did because this is a super sweet romance that I really enjoyed, even if it was more like a movie than real life a times.

hjreviews I have such a hard time with romance novels because I was always find a disconnect from reality too distracting 😬 8mo
sebrittainclark @hjreviews yeah I'm okay if I don't know anything about a situation. Like A Princess in Theory, I don't know anything about princesses or immunology so I can go with it. But this was set in an office, and I know about that, so it was a little tough for me to roll with the disconnect. It definitely got better after the first few chapters. 8mo
