When a book begins like this, you know you're in for a wild ride. "You are about to begin reading Italo Calvino's new novel, If on a winter's night a traveler. Relax. Concentrate. Dispel every other thought. Let the world around you fade. Best to close the door; the TV is always on in the next room. Tell the others right away, "No, I don't want to watch TV!" Raise your voice-they won't hear you otherwise-"I'm reading! I don't want to be disturbed!

Mmlindquist15 This book is one of my favorites in the experimental fiction category. It's fun, frustrating, and worth the read. Hope you enjoy it! 8y

Sweetbitter: A novel | Stephanie Danler

"It is a strange pressure to be across from a man who wants something that you don't want to give. It's like standing in a forceful current, which at first you think is not too strong, but the longer you stand, the more tired you become, the harder it is to stay upright."

jessberk13 I've been waiting for this from the library for so long!! I have it on hold from 3 libraries in ebook format and one in hardcover. Finally one of my ebooks says I'm next in line - I'm checking every day!! 8y
alissakay @jessica I hope you get it soon! I was afraid it wouldn't live up to the hype but I'm loving it so far. 8y

Mischling: A novel | Affinity Konar

"All those innocents-I didn't wonder about their futures that day as I left the abandoned house. I couldn't know their destinations, their triumphs, their troubles. The ones who integrated themselves into new cities and forgot themselves in new professions, either forming empires grand enough to blot out a past, or failing to thrive because they couldn't get the sound if they'd own blood out of they heads . . . They were children, once."

Mehso-so

Part of me really wanted to love this book. At times it was so beautifully written I just had to sit and think for a while. However, the book also felt repetitive and a little ridiculous, to be honest. It felt like the author just wanted to pile on as much pain and bad events as she could, for no real reason. I understand Jude being sexually assaulted by one person, but by hundreds of people over the course of his life? That seemed excessive.
