Did not anticipate loving this book as much as I did!

This was a quick read, which I am thankful for. The story moves quickly and I really enjoyed the first two and the last two portions of the story. The middle kind of loses momentum for me. In typical Diaz style the story is told with a little Spanish sprinkled in which I really enjoy but unlike the other novels it loses me somewhere in the middle, the voidlce of the narrator changes . However I would recommend this as a quick post breakup read.

It was definitely a pallete cleanser from being unable to finish The Goldfinch. I thought it would focus just a tad more on the "machine" but it focuses almost exclusively on the worlds the main character us able to conjure up due to her blindness. It was alright. A quick read, quick paced but not too elaborate.

I did the unthinkable today and I DNF The Goldfinch. I honestly have been in a book rut since starting it. So I put it aside till I can get into the headspace for it, whatever that means. Anyone got some insights? Comments?

I enjoyed Einstein's Dreams immensely. It is actually one of my favorite books so I was curious about another of Lightmans novel. I was highly disappointed at the disjointed storytelling. It was a rewind, a fast forward and then a jiggle. That was how it felt none of the characters except for Benito even mattered. The idea was there. The possibility of something good but the execution was subpar.

I've had this on my to read for a very long time. I've always heard wonderfult things, so I was excited for it. However now that I'm done with it, I feel very meh about it. I think that it is a beautiful way to tell a story about time and how it is reflected within the family, the same cyclical story of one family trapped in itself. However the repetition of the names grated me. Read it if you have a burning need.

I wasn't sure how I would like this book since my previous BOTM selections were subpar. However I enjoyed the fast paced story. What I think really hooked me however was the setting. This story is set in Los Angeles and it's my biggest weak spot. I enjoy being able to mentally see what my protagonist is doing geographically. Read it if you want something quick, light and funny reading.

It took me a while to finish this book to be honest I want to say it took all of 2018. Its a beautiful story but its told with disjointed time lines and thru different perspectives. I kind of wish that the end had been different. I enjoyed it, but don't race to read it.

A beautiful book!

I absolutely loved this book! I love books that are able to incorporate myths into reality. It was a bit of a surprise to me because I hadn't read reviews of the book and the jacket is vague but intriguing. I was pleasantly surprised to find a well written story about a boys journey into the mythological plane. It's so short it should be a must. This is the first Neil Gaiman book I've ever read and I'm looking forward to American Gods.

I've had this on my to-read list for years. I managed to skip Hemingway in high school and despite being an English major I also managed to not read any of his works. I wasn't missing much. I know he is supposed to be one of the greats and maybe this isnt the one to start with. I found it incredibly tedious, dry and boring. It took me forever to finish because I just didnt want to read it. I wouldn't reccomend it.
