Latest newsletter praises the work of Brian Bowyer, particularly his book FLESH REHEARSAL. Here's a quick description:

A girl leaves home after years of abuse and tragedy. She meets up with kids of a famous dead rocker. They head to LA. A serial killer lurks.

As happens from time to time.

Seriously intense read. Not for the light of heart!

SWITCHERS Has Been Spotted in the Wild!
My son saw a copy of my book on the reading table at a local coffee shop and was all, “Wait. That book is called…. That looks like…. Is. Is that YOUR book, dad?”
🤯🤣
Then he got his drink waffles and didn‘t care anymore. 🤷‍♂️
. . .
(Yes, it's Switchers, not Switcher; I couldn't put the whole title in because there's already a book with that title on Litsy and they said there's not much to be done...🤷‍♂️)

KathyWheeler That just seems odd that there‘s nothing that can be done. There are lots of books with the same title. There are 3 books called Beach House in the Litsy database. (edited) 2y
Christopher_Tallon @KathyWheeler
I know...
But the system simply WOULD. NOT. Allow it. I'm not mad at Litsy, though. The people who've tried to help me with it have been super cool, just not able to fully resolve the issue. It's ok; the book rocks regardless😎

Now, if YOU wanna try to add it...🤣
✌🏼
2y
KathyWheeler @Christopher_Tallon 😄. I‘ve actually never added a book to Litsy in all the time I‘ve been here. 2y
Christopher_Tallon @KathyWheeler I've interviewed several indie authors on my podcast and kinda got into independent fiction. So I've had to add a handful of books. 2y

THIS IS MY BOOK! (It's called Switchers (not Switcher (... (🙄))))

Back in 1996, teens are pulled into a time travel war with their future selves. They use a device to switch bodies with their younger selves, sending their '96 counterparts into a future ravaged by a parasitic “zombie“ fungus and war between those who have the technology and those who don't.

They have to survive, time travel, and make it home before it's too late. Permanently.

Very interesting guy, this Richard dude. He designed video games, he's been in space, and he's been under the Titanic. (That's not really a spoiler; the book opens with this story. I won't go into detail. *wink*)
I read a select few non-fiction between lots of fiction, fiction, fiction. Probably half the non-fic I read is about writing fiction. So it's rare I read non-fiction that doesn't have a direct utilitarian value, but this was a fun one!!!

J. Robert Lennon is a genius. You're never really sure where you're going, but you're excited to go.
A former physics PhD student has a nervous breakdown, attacks a teacher, and falls in love with his psych nurse. Things go wrong almost from the start in a way that's hilarious, sad, upsetting, worrying, and captivating.
J. Robert Lennon...yeah, man.

Great horror novel that infuses rock music into the story!

Layla lost her father in a horrific accident when she was younger. Now she's a recovering addict and drummer in a Las Vegas-based rock band. When her mother becomes ill, she has to go home to New England and face her metaphorical demons.

And maybe a literal one...

*She talks about it on my podcast: https://creativeops.podbean.com/e/creative-ops-ep2-jennifer-soucy-author-of-demo...

VioletBramble I'm looking for books with an element of music. I'm stacking this. On a scale of 1-10 how scary is this one? 4y
Christopher_Tallon @VioletBramble That's a tough one. I don't get particularly freaked out by much horror. 6-8, depending on your horror-tolerance.
The characters and storytelling take center stage over violence and gore (mostly).
4y
VioletBramble Thank you. I do kinda freak out so I‘ll consider it an 8 and read it during the day. As a nurse I‘m less bothered by gore and more bothered by creepiness. 4y

Brandon Scott is an incredibly talented author. His protagonists are morally questionable, but they confront far greater evils, and develop into more easily likeable folks--with lots of supernatural thrills along the way.

The sequel to “Vodou“ centers on new characters whose story takes place at the same time as the events in book 1.

This is a really cool book. It‘s science fiction that, I think, would appeal to people who aren‘t big sci-fi fans. It‘s imaginative but also relatable. K Chess uses the sci-fi genre, set in an alternate future, to make important statements about the world we live in, relevant to immigration and refugee issues, as well as general loss.
Love it!

One of my favorite books. A beautifully told story about a young man battling with depression. It's at times funny and awkward, other times sad and scary, but always very true and incredibly emotional.

On a personal note, Ned Vizzini helped me start my first writing workshop for students. He was a great guy, and even though his struggles ended tragically, his book lives on and continues to help a lot of people.

An important book for all ages .

Pickpick

Loved this book. It was found, completed, after Crichton‘s death. I‘m not sure why it wasn‘t published sooner, but I‘m glad it got published at all.
I‘m not a pirate story kind of guy, but Crichton could write about anything and make it interesting.
The book is full of interesting bits of history, but the characters and the action are phenomenal. Highly recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed anything he wrote previously.

myellenbee I've read it too. To me it was very different than his other books. Probably because it was more historical less science. It was still a good tale. A little triggering torture wise. 4y
Christopher_Tallon @myellenbee Hadn't really thought about the possible triggering effect.... After Jurassic Park and Congo, I just expect that his books are going to be a bit of a roller coaster. Thanks for helping me shift my perspective a little. And thanks for sharing your thoughts! 4y
myellenbee Yes Michael Crichton is a favorite I've read all his books and they certainly can get gory. It's the intent of deliberately hurting people with torture that upsets me. Kind of hypocritical of me violence wise though. 4y

DAMN this is a good book.

This book takes place a few hundred years ago in Germany. A young man, sent away to boarding schools his whole life, returns to his village after being expelled for nearly beating another student to death. But he doesn‘t remember doing it. Upon arriving, the town elders tell him to leave. Strange things start happening. People start dying.

Old-timey folklore, magic, and horror. Hell yeah!

This is my favorite non-legal Grisham novel. It takes place on Camino Island, FL (based loosely on Amelia Island). Five original F. Scott Fitzgerald manuscripts are stolen.
