Spoiler free because I want you to find this story, not read it to complete your yearly goal.
No rating can describe this story. This story was just meant to be felt, to be observed. I finished this story yesterday, but it is all I could think about. I wanted this story to end & not end at the same time.

hya This story felt like a disturbing & unsettling dream, a dream which feels too real. When we wake up, we frantically look for water, for signs that it was a dream, for control, but that was the only thing which the characters of this book didn't have.
This book, simply put, is about violence, both within & around us. In this, the MC, Yeong-Hye, finds herself at the epicenter of violence & how that violence drives the life out of her.
7d
hya We, as readers, are not once given her POV, except when her dream is described. It gives us the story of themselves & of her, through 3 other people, her husband, her brother-in-law, & finally her sister. 7d
hya After some initial pushing through the story because the men in this book are disgusting & insufferable, I understood it's not just about open violence against women or any being, but the deadly assassin is the silent violence, deep in minds of normal people which if given chance, can ruin everything, which is exactly what is happening right now in the world. 7d
hya This review feels incomplete & complete at the same time just like this book felt to me. I hope you find this story, read it, understand it, but never relate to it. Whoever finds & understands, not enjoy the violence around & within themselves, I hope & pray that you never feel you are the monster. 7d

First, this is a YA story. Characters are 17-18. So naturally they will behave like how normal teenagers would. They are childish, selfish, cringy, annoying & irritating to adults. So if you get easily annoyed by teenagers or teen characters, don't read it. You'll find it boring and frustrating & I don't want these tags to be associated with this beautiful & bittersweet story.

hya First we get to know about a particular incident that happened in MCs life when they were 10 & then we got to know them 1 month before completing their high school.
I think I needed this story at this point of time in my life. It made me remember my adventures, my somewhat reckless life. But most importantly, it made me remember my friends, my memories with them, my fights, my bond. This story is about the bond despite there being differences or disagreements. Our different characteristics & how, when we are together, we are whole.
7d
hya This story is also about how our imagination of someone is far from that of someone's reality. We can understand each other but can never be each other. But by only imagining being someone else, or the world being something else, is the only way light gets in. It's the machine that kills fascists. 7d
hya This story played with my strings, their importance & how careful we have to be while choosing our metaphors, because they have implications. It's how we see ourselves & how we let the world see us. 7d
hya I didn't cry at the end but it sure made me think, about our roots, our values, our aspirations, love & letting go. People often take love & letting go in opposite senses. But when you understand them & you understand yourself, in my POV, that's the only thing that matters. 7d

This book sucked me right into it. And when I finished it, I was just staring at the wall, not able to comprehend what just happened and how it ended. At first I was not able to relate to our MC- Rachel Watson, a functioning alcoholic, still using her ex husband's name, but man oh man, the twists and turns kept me hooked throughout.
I really liked the premise and idea of different POVs.
Continued in the comments...

hya I felt like I was with the characters, right by their side, watching, observing, feeling. It really showed how unpredictable life is, how nothing is ever an accident and how something so little as looking out of the train can change your life forever.
How it is really difficult and important to move on but sometimes you are just not ready to let go of the person or the part of you who still loves that person.

hya It was a high speed ride jumping from Rachel to Megan to Anna, delving deep into their minds, their lives, their insecurities and their motives. This book really showed me how somebody can look so perfectly normal and you would have no idea what is going on in their lives.
This book is through and through a murder mystery and it sure kept me up all night.

It took a lot of time to finish this book. It's not long, but I actually ruined the experience for me. I first read 30 pages of it in Jan 2022, then more 40 pages around middle of the 2022 and now I finally finished it.
I have so many thoughts about this book. Just like most of the Kafka's books, this also directly or indirectly portrays Kafka's own life and his relationships with his family.
(Continued in the comments)

hya (1)His father's overbearing, authoritarian personality & his love for his sister is the main story of this book. This book touches the topic of changing mindsets, absurdity of existence and the alienating experience of modern life.
Even though I knew the ending, it still made me sad and I wanted more of this story. Throughout the story he and his sister tries everything in their capacity so that everything works out but everybody has their limits.

hya (2) Working for the family at the young age of 17-18, seeing her family struggling everyday through multiple jobs, Grete(sister) broke down and that's where story has it's climax.
Even though Kafka wanted to write more of this story, it's complete and incomplete in it's own way. I think everyone should at least read it once in their lifetime and try to understand the complexities of life.💭

The journey I had through this book was perfectly agreeable and the most fascinating one. I had gone through every emotion through this book. The anticipation, the anger, the blushing. I love this book and don't ask me how much I am controlling myself to not re-read and move on to next book.
This book written in 1800s is still relevant in today's time. There is still a thinking of class, birth and money above all.
(Continued in the comment)

hya I have felt every emotion which Elizabeth felt throughout the course of the story. The growth of characters, the circumstances, the reasons behind them and ohh the letters (Istg I was dreading the letters as I was proceeding with the story for they bought the most unexpected turns).
The satire, the emotions, the setting, the plot, I just can't put into words what I don't love abou P&P. It will be a forever favourite.

I used to read till 2 years back but then pandemic happened and it changed everything. I still bought books but was unable to concentrate because of studies and surroundings. I would always pick up books(audiobooks, ebooks), read for few pages and kept it aside.
This year in Jan I bought 8 new books and pledge to get out of this slump as soon as possible. (Pretty late) I started with the shortest book to get started and it's going pretty well😊
