The Girl on the Train
The Girl on the Train | The Girl on the Train
A debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She's even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their lifeas she sees itis perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It's only a minute until the train moves on, but it's enough. Now everything's changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

I read this book before movie came out so I could compare. At first the author confused me with switching from character to character. It started a little slow for me but it got better for me. I enjoyed the book more than the movie.

I'm starting to notice this theme of thriller novels having characters with alcohol issues 😐 doesn't it get old demonizing alcoholism?
on another thought...i noticed Goodreads doesn't allow you to update anymore beyond a general update. Anyone know why?

This is a sad book. It touches on a few sensitive real life topics. A lot of raw emotions expressed.

I enjoyed the story. It was well written and kept me tangled in the characters feelings.

If you can get this in audio version, the narrator does a beautiful job.

Wow! Just wow! This book is ultimate. I started reading this book few days ago. I never expected the climax to be in such fashion when I started reading it. The pace of the book keeps on increasing. Once you reach the climax, that's it, there is no putting away. You'll complete the last 50-60 pages in a single go for sure. It's one of the best crime fiction. Give it a try.

A wonderful afternoon at the Marlowe Theatre watching girl on the train ... also am currently - girl on the train. Couldn‘t stop myself wandering into a few of Canterbury‘s book shops and paperchase . Planning on getting one organised! Especially with the new pen 🖊 not only a biro and not only a highlighter but has mini post-it notes too 🤩 life changing

This followed along pretty much like a standard mystery. I guessed early on who the killer was. I really enjoyed the premise of someone witnessing another person's life in snippets passing by on the train during their commute. But all the characters were pretty shallow and unlikeable. The only one I really felt for was Rachel. Overall I'd recommend for a quick weekend mystery read. #pop19 #popsugar2019

There‘s a man on the opposite side of the train, sandy blond hair veering towards ginger. He‘s smiling at me. I want to say something to him, but the words keep evaporating, vanishing off my tongue before I have the chance to say them. I can taste them, but I can‘t tell if they are #sweet or sour. Is he smiling at me, or is he sneering? I can‘t tell. #QuotsyMay19

Quite a thriller. Very entertaining.
But all the gaslighting, lost memories, and constructed confusion was a little exhausting. I suppose that's what it takes to produce a good thriller.
Not my normal read for a reason, but a good way to detox from the heavier lit I have been reading.

I finally finished reading this book after 3 months of picking it up , getting bored and setting it down and forgetting about it. Then reminding myself I had to finish reading it. The main character took forever to get to the point, she was always whining about her husband . She was repetitive-constantly! It was predictable , the ending was ok . Character development took a while. 3 ⭐️

Suzze I read this as an advance before it came out and felt the same way. I was amazed when it came out and people went crazy for it! 12mo

Obviously I am very late to having read this book club. I loved reading every moment of this book and it was actually not predictable. Everything I predicted was debunked in the book itself. I loved the twists and the narration. Rachel really surprised me by listing all her faults without glossing everything over. A movie that makes me yet again want to know how it has been adapted on the screen.

Told from the point of view of 3 women, Rachel the alcoholic, Meghan the liar and Anna the cheat, it was hard to know who I could trust. The twists kept me guessing right up to the end. I was honestly thinking this would be worse than it was. It was rather easily predictable, but a few things did surprise me! It shows one of the painful realities of alcoholism, and that was the hardest thing to grasp about this book personally. Overall, the writing wasn‘t as impressive as other similar novels, but it was a worthwhile read!
