4/5. (i‘m a couple of days late from when i finished this)
this was so good, but i definitely liked the first book better. gemina was good, but i thought it was more confusing than illuminae. i‘m reading obsidio now, and it‘s my favorite if the three so far.

5/5. i loved this!! i wasn‘t expecting much, to be honest, because i‘m often disappointed by classics. this one was a lot better because it is still entirely relevant, even though it was written in 1890. the writing style added to the book; i think that if it were a simple and blunt writing style it would have taken away from the meaning. there were a few moments that i gasped out loud and i didn‘t want to put it down. great read!

3/5. this was really interesting, and i think it‘s important to read books about other kinds of mental illnesses like schizophrenia. i liked it and thought that the character was well-written and funny, but i just didn‘t love it for no particular reason. if i had bought this book, i probably would have donated it later on.

Up From the Sea | Leza Lowitz
Pickpick

5/5. this was soooo good. written in verse, lowitz describes the events that happened in japan on 3/11, when a deadly tsunami sweeps through kai‘s town. the character in this book really helped to explain how horrible this event was. i don‘t want to give anything away, but this book was so sad and it was so good, too. i read it in less than 1.5 hours if you want a quick read.

4/5. this was actually way better than i expected. it had the right amount of fantasy/magic, and it was a genuinely interesting plot line. this was a really unique read and also dealt with some more important issues, like mental health and eating disorders. the only reason i took off a star was because i thought that a couple parts were a bit rushed, but it was an enjoyable read overall.

Why We Broke Up | Daniel Handler
Pickpick

5/5. i love love love loved this. the author, daniel handler, is actually the non-pseudonym of lemony snicket, whose writing style i really like. it was a lot of log descriptive passages and a lot of attention to detail, which was one of the main themes of this book. also, the illustrations were beautiful! be warned if you want to buy this, though, the heavy paper makes it hard to hold (i almost dropped it on my face, 😂).

4/5. i must say, this is one of the few murder mysteries where i didn‘t see the end coming. however, the girls in this book i thought were very unlikeable and lacked self-control when it came to sexual situations. it was quite sad, actually. but overall, this book was one of the better thriller/mysteries that i‘ve read.

1.5/5. the voice in this book was unrealistic and seemed to pity herself often. i also thought that some parts were very rushed, however, i just read a 5-star book and was expecting more. i did like the ending better than the beginning and it had a nice message.

3/5. to be quite honest, i really don‘t enjoy this type of book, and i think that‘s why i didn‘t like it as much as i thought that i would. i think that others that enjoy this genre will like this a lot, but it isn‘t for me. may i also add that this is one of the prettiest books i have ever owned, with its simplicity and unassuming sharpie-lettered cover. truly beautiful.

1.5/5. this was actually so terrible. it was about this girl that thinks another girl (lizzie) that hat gone missing was a WEREWOLF. yes. you read that correctly. also, this girl was so condescending and also acting so angsty. that‘s all i have to say, besides i wouldn‘t read this if i were you.

quote

this book is honestly so dumb. this girl thinks that this missing girl, lizzie, is a werewolf and is conducting an investigation. not what i signed up for ?? also, this girl needs to stop acting so depressed, what‘s her problem?

5/5. if i were an author, this is the book i would write. it‘s a little bit of everything, a bit of mystery (okay, a lot), a bit of romance, a bit of humor, a bit of serious issues like sexual harassment. this was so, so good (but if you‘re looking for something like the book their, look elsewhere).

4/5. this was really a mental health book in disguise. it deals with depression, anxiety, and suicide really well, and you can tell that the author really did her research. julia had many of the same beliefs that i do, also, and it was just a relatable book. this is a great book with a strong female lead, but the reason i deducted a star was because at some points, julia was doing things that i thought were cruel, especially to her parents.

5/5. this book was truly one of the most thought-provoking books that i‘ve read, and that is because it was so much more than a romance. this is a book about books, and because of that, it had so many wonderful passages from the people reading books, leaving the notes to each other, and i loved it so much. (side note, if you‘re planning to read this book, take special notice to fredrick. he was my favorite.)

3/5. you know, this was a lot. there was so much information. and it kept morphing into one thing to another- romance, mystery, a really sweet story about a set of twins- but it took me so long to read and just dragged on and on. it was okay. i get the hype. but i also don‘t get the hype, if that makes sense.

The Leaving | Tara Altebrando

2/5. this book took me forever to read (meaning five days). i have never been a fan of love triangles. i love mysteries, but i hate young adult ones- the characters are always so concerned about falling in love rather than finding out where, in this case, a character‘s missing brother has been for eleven years. i was disappointed also by the writing style, which i thought was unnecessary. it was an okay book, but by all means, not a masterpiece.
