"Jane Sinner snarked her way into my heart, and she's never leaving. Prepare to fall hard for this hilarious, heartfelt gem of a book."Becky Albertalli, author of Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda Its Kind of a Funny Story meets Daria in the darkly hilarious tale of a teens attempt to remake her public image and restore inner peace through reality TV. The only thing 17-year-old Jane Sinner hates more than failure is pity. After a personal crisis and her subsequent expulsion from high school, shes going nowhere fast. Janes well-meaning parents push her to attend a high school completion program at the nearby Elbow River Community College, and she agrees, on one condition: she gets to move out. Jane tackles her housing problem by signing up for House of Orange, a student-run reality show that is basically Big Brother, but for Elbow River Students. Living away from home, the chance to win a car (used, but whatever), and a campus full of people who don't know what she did in high school what more could she want? Okay, maybe a family that understands why shed rather turn to Freud than Jesus to make sense of her life, but she'll settle for fifteen minutes in the proverbial spotlight. As House of Orange grows from a low-budget web series to a local TV show with fans and shoddy T-shirts, Jane finally has the chance to let her cynical, competitive nature thrive. She'll use her growing fan base, and whatever Intro to Psychology can teach her, to prove to the worldor at least viewers of substandard TVthat she has what it takes to win.

I binged this book last night and have zero regrets. One of the funniest, wittiest and snarkiest (in a good way) YA books I‘ve ever read. I ❤️ Jane.

Grey cat wants me to get up and refill my coffee cup so she can steal my spot. And yes, I have book problems 😹

batsy This sounds so fun! And it's the first I'm hearing about it, so thank you :) 6y
saresmoore The blurb had me at Daria. Sounds like a great, light read! 6y
LauraBeth @batsy and @saresmoore I had never heard of this book until I spotted someone reading it yesterday. I had to do some Google sleuthing to decide if I wanted to read it and uncovered a mention in this podcast (episode 147 - the review starts at 23:30). I thought she summarized the book well http://www.sortaawesomeshow.com/shownotes/2018/5/30/ep-147-sizzling-summer-books... 6y
CarolynM Sounds like my sort of thing. Stacked 6y
MicheleinPhilly @saresmoore Exactly! I stacked as soon as I read “meets Daria.” 6y

1. Spy someone at Starbucks totally into this
2. Check Litsy and see that everyone who has read it rated it as a Pick
3. Decide you want in on it

DGRachel Good luck! 6y

Jane Sinner is taking a second chance at life via a community college reality tv show. Jane‘s snarky but genuine attitude is just my style. I loved every minute of this one.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Ahhhhh I'm finally back sorry I haven't posted probably since December or something insane like that! But now that I'm on Litsy again I had to review this amazing, hilarious, incredible book! I haven't read a journal style like this in a really long time, and I really enjoyed the format! Jane is such an intriguing character, who you fall for so quickly and I absolutely loved rooting for her! Definitely check this one out!

If you want to make a clever joke with a funny German word LOOK IT UP if you wrote it correctly! This is really poor editing. Googling this would have took 2 minutes.
It‘s “Schadenfreude” (i.e being happy that someone did poorly) not Freudenschade 🤔.
#nicetryjanesinner #reading #saturday #happyweekend #newbook

julesG Maybe the author did it on purpose? 6y
thewallflower0707 @JulesG the way the joke was introduced, I don‘t think so. 6y
julesG Oh, okay. Then you're right, Google would have helped. Apart from that, I think "Schadenfreude" is known in English. Like Wanderlust and Zeitgeist, it's one of the few German words that made it into the English language. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/schadenfreude 6y

My brain has been fried in the evenings lately so I'm starting this one which seems like it should be an easy entertaining read.

*Also I completely forgot I had checked this out from the library and now it's due back by the end of the week...

RachLovesTV So many times my reads are based on "what's due next at the library?" ? Hope it's good! 6y
danibolahood @RachLovesTV this one's a Canadian author so I'm keeping you company for the beginning of your March reading 😊 6y
RachLovesTV Oooooo really?? Don't mind me as I add it to my already long list for this month! 😂😂 I'll probably post my reading list in the next few days if you want to see what's on it. 6y
danibolahood @RachLovesTV yes definitely if it's not too much trouble to tag me when you post it I'd super appreciate it 😁. Also, so far Jane Sinner has some fantastic snark - if that's your thing. 6y
RachLovesTV Sure thing! And yes, I love a good placed snark! 😁 6y

These two very gorgeous books were delivered today! #nicetryjanesinner #theapocalypseofelenamendoza #shaundavidhutchinson

Speaking of Elena: the very diverse, funny and real show One Day at a time is a must-watch on Netflix! It‘s about a Cuban-American family and deals with coming-out, immigration, ptsd... it‘s just wonderful!

rachelsbrittain I *love* One Day at a Time! Have you watched the second season yet? Also I really want to read The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza. Hope you enjoy both the new reads 😊 6y

Oh my god I love this book. The cover kept yelling at me and when I got into it I couldn‘t put it down. It‘s written in diary form and Jane tells the story as it happens at the end of the day. There‘s so much going on with the reality show, the emotional upheaval, school and all of it was so good. Her existential crisis read very well and was handled respectfully because faith is hard and it‘s a personal decision. Also AP is a jerk! *no spoilers*

Happy book birthday to this book that I loved! It has an MC with a very dry sense of humor and sarcastic voice, a reality tv show, and focuses on mental health and depression.

Here's a booktalk for any other librarians out there who want to rec this book

Today is the first day of my 2 week winter vacation and I'm planning on reading as much as possible so here's my planned winter vacation TBR. I'm hoping to knock out the graphic novels and comics that I've checked out the last few weeks and finish some other reads too.

What do you want to read before the end of the year?

brownekr LOVE what I've read of As The Crow Flies so far! In a similar vein, I've got the new Lumberjanes trade in my vacation TBR, plus lots of work-adjacent reading. 6y

I loved it! It's not often I pick up a contemporary and love it, but I read the first four pages & was hooked.

This book touches on issues that i relate to, like depression, guilt, suicide, atheism/apathy. But it's written in such a witty, fun, & snarky way that you find yourself sucked in, speeding through the pages.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fun, yet meaningful read about a girl just trying to find herself.
