Hi guys! I'm looking for books (but also poems/short stories/films) for my dissertation on movement through cities and emotion. Ideally with a bit of activism involved (focus on marginalised groups/written by non-white or non-male persons), but this isn't necessary. Focusing on the contemporary period, but earlier examples will be good too. Any ideas? Will be eternally grateful!

Fun, clever, quick read! Just the book I needed today.

The penguin clothbound edition of Bleak House is my favourite ever #impulsebuy - saw it used and had to have it. Since then I've been trying to find excuses for getting the rest of the series. #augustphotochallenge

Only a handful of books have ever made me cry, but this is one if them. I keep coming back to a chapter that perfectly describes that feeling of knowing you're doing something wrong but at the same time being immobilised and unable to change it. If that makes sense - can't even describe it here which is why you should read the book! Middlemarch gets all the attention but this one is my fave of hers (+ it's shorter too)!

Ok, so I actually enjoyed the experience of reading this, but the more I think about it, I just can't help feeling like it's not actually a very interesting book. A bit too postmodern in the tired sense, and not as clever as it thinks it is.

Found this classic romantic mystery on my mother's shelf and gobbled it up. Fantastic descriptions, slightly awkward dialogue and a very 1938 view of sexual morality. But such a page-turner.

A rainy day is perfect for one of my all-time favourites. Dinesen's stories are so perfectly poetic and intriguing, and every page has a sentence that makes me gasp. My favourites in this volume are The Dreamers and Deluge at Norderney 👌🏼

Oxford equipped me well for dealing with the history of British lit before approximately 1950. As for everything else, trying to fill in some humongous gaps at the moment. Enjoyed this one, 7/10

Hands down my best reading experience of 2016 so far. Read it a few months back but keep returning to it in my mind. If you haven't yet read it, get on it folks!

Love the way Marilynne Robinson uses the visual page. Even though the numbness and isolation which the novel so beautifully conveys hit a bit close to home in my current situation, recovering from the stress of finishing a degree.

Summer = classics. This one had a slow start, but is completely worth it and absolutely incredible 👍🏼
