We hurt each other too well to let it drop. She breaks everything I own, yells at me like it might change something, tries to slam doors on my fingers. When she wants me to promise her a love that's never been seen anywhere I think about the other girls. #drown #junotdiaz

"Trees are schizophrenic now and beginning to lose control, enraged with the shock of their fiery new colors. Someone—was it van Gogh?—said that orange is the color of insanity. Beauty is terror. We want to be devoured by it, to hide ourselves in that fire which refines us.”

Meaty: Essays | Samantha Irby

"Today, 2/13/10, is my birthday. I am excited because I am 30 years old and I don't have a man in my life. I haven't had any children...I don't have any major accomplishments of note. I don't own any property. I have a "job" and not a "career". I am incapable of going grocery shopping. (In my refrigerator: Campari, club soda, orange juice, High Life.) I haven't paid my electric bill in the last three months..." #SamanthaIrby just gets me. ?

This was written in its entirety from the solitude of a prison cell. At one point the manuscript was discovered and burned, and Genet just started all over again, despite having no hope that he would finish it before it was destroyed, or that he would be able to carry it out with him, or that it would ever be published. It's also my first Genet, so I'm pretty pumped about that.

WARNING: DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IN PUBLIC. That is, unless you want to be THAT person on the bus sobbing uncontrollably. 😭😫😰 Seriously, though. I'm not kidding. This book is going to rip your heart out in the most beautiful and devastating way imaginable, over and over again.

My Struggle, Book 3 | Karl Ove Knausgaard
post image

"There was no warning. Suddenly, there he was, furious. Whether he hit me or not made no difference, it was equally awful if he twisted my ear or squeezed my arm or dragged me somewhere to see what I had done, it wasn't the pain I was afraid of, it was him, his voice, his face, his body, the fury it emitted, that was what I was afraid of, and the terror never let up, it was there for every single day of my entire childhood."

I had initially planned to work my way through this six-volume giant on an every-other-book basis, but after plowing through book one in a few days NOW I CAN'T STOP. It's brilliant and beautiful and heart wrenching and I never want it to end. #currentlyreading #karloveknausgaard #mystruggle #book2

My Struggle: | Karl Ove Knausgaard, Don Bartlett

For humans are merely one form among many, which the world produces over and over again, not only in everything that lives but also in everything that does not live, drawn in sand, stone, and water. And death, which I have always regarded as the greatest dimension of life, dark, compelling, was no more than a pipe that springs a leak, a branch that cracks in the wind, a jacket that slips off a clothes hanger and falls to the floor.

Pickpick

I read this for the first time less than a year ago and I loved it so much that I decided to reread it (which I RARELY do bc my TBR list will outlive me) before reading M Train. I'm less than 30 pages into my second reading and I immediately remembered why I loved this book so much. Her prose is so simple and so succinct, but still has such a beautiful and poetic quality to it without the need for tons of florid or superfluous language. #obsessed

I closed the book of memory. Yes, there was music to be extracted from those old wounds. But the time was not yet. Let them fester awhile in the dark.

So excited to wrap up this #trilogy! If you enjoy #henrymiller and his signature rambling, autobiographical prose, you'll enjoy this series. Also great for any of you aspiring writers out there as it details his struggles to become an author. #therosycrucifixiontrilogy #nexus
