Samantha Irby at a signing here in Chicago, years ago. I had loved the blog she did before her books and loved “Meaty.” She had also been an assistant at our vet‘s office and she remembered me! I definitely fangirled at that!

This author is very funny. And sometimes gross. But she gives me perspective like at least I have some of my shit figured out.

#ARC #Netgalley this one is from 2018. Don't judge. I will clean up some of my mess. #Goals
It‘s a beautiful day and I‘m hanging on the balcony after work. In between Dracula daily I‘m reading this book from one of my favs!
The TMI essay-memoir I didn't know I needed...
Having read 'wow, no thank you' I delved back into the Irby back catalogue. At first I thought it would be a flop (ENOUGH WITH THE RECIPES ALREADY) but it went from strength to strength.
'My mother, my daughter' made me cry in public, and some of the later essays made me laugh out loud.
Irby is the queen of oversharing and an essayist to watch.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There are times when Samantha Irby is too relatable that it actually makes me anxious to finish some of the essays lol super compelling and hilarious and honest; this is her second collection that I‘ve read and I will continue to whenever I need a pick me up comedy read or I‘m in the mood to get dragged through the mud 😂

March was another mixed reading bag. I really enjoyed listening to Meaty, a collection of very funny essays that had been on my TBR for ages.
Close runners up were Circle of Friends (just the right amount of chick lit vibes) and Malibu Rising (TJR can certainly nail a setting). I had never read any of these authors before and now I want to read everything all 3 have written!
I love that Samantha Irby tells all her truth at all times. Is it gross sometimes? Of course! But this is 100% real talk, and I laughed a ton. (I did listen to the audio, because the way she reads her books is like having a no nonsense all night long phone conversation with my best friends.) 🍆🍑🤢 💩🤭🤣 💜
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Irby‘s debut essay collection covers her early life, family, dating, Crohn‘s disease, and the inception and success of her blog “Bitches Gotta Eat,” plus other random stuff sprinkled about. Having read her two most recent books, I‘ll admit that this is her strongest and funniest. Irby is brash at times, but honest and thoughtful, too.
Super hot Saturday night with Sam Irby and a recipe for citrus tarts that I really hope taste as good as they look! #audiobaking #currentlylistening
I‘m posting one book per day from my ever-increasing TBR. No description. No explanation. Just books to read. Join the fun if you want.
Days 95.

Funny raw and real. Sam Irby is so blunt and honest in her storytelling. Listening to the author read her book 📖 makes the book come alive to the listener.
You know there‘s something going on, when I start excessive online shopping😬 It‘s my distraction from everything else....just bought 2 more titles from the Audible 2 for 1 sale ❣️Sale ends tonight!
Certainly not for everyone, but it is for me! I can't add much more to the discussion on this one, I mean it is what everyone says "gross", don't read if you're adverse to sex talk or squeamish about bodies. I laughed out loud and not ashamed. ?
I read her most recent Wow, and I'm on hold for Never Meeting IRL. Can't wait. ? #libby #audiobook
This book is grossly honest. And I mean gross. From subjects like diarrhea to your nether regions. But I was laughing so hard I found myself snapping pics of passages to send to friends and they were all “wtf? What are you reading? I need to read it too!”
Loving this book. When the local Brewster Bookstore opened I went in. I work in a library but the thing I missed most about lock down were the bookstores. I got my fix and found a new author. ❤️📚💕
In which I started to get hot sitting outside so I came in to do some audio knitting and immediately got under a blanket. That yarn gradient is looking gorgeous and Samantha Irby is cracking me up with her filthy humor.
So there‘s just a little too much graphic sex talk for this ace, but if you would find a single, childless Ali Wong funny, this is your jam. I still can‘t wait until her new book comes out Tuesday.

In honor of Samantha Irby‘s next essay collection publishing later this month, I went back and read her first collection. She beautifully weaves hilarious essays about sex, Crohn‘s disease, a fantastic take-down of diets and more with heartfelt essays about her difficult childhood. She has no filter and holds nothing back, so some will be shocked. I think she‘s awesome and can‘t wait for the new book.
I agree with so many things she says! Which is probably not surprising when you take into account Irby‘s assertion that her friends‘ moms all love her and that she has far more in common with moms than people her own age.
Note: if you are sensitive to cursing, this might not be your jam. Book 29/100

This has been recommended to me for so long. Finally picked it up on audiobook from OverDrive. Listened while I was running errands and laughed out loud in the middle of Target. 💯
Absolutely hi-la-rious! Randomly bought it while in London for a couple of days, and was awkwardly trying not to gigglesnort while on the subway 🙈
📚 Meaty!!! 🤣 that cover though!! 😎

Between a pick/so so. I adore this author and her 2nd book, but I didn‘t love this one 😕 It DID have her trade mark style... but I listened on audiobook and there was way too much cursing. I‘m light years away from being prudish so the average person might have a REALLY hard time 🙁 plus WAY too many recipes and listing of ingredients etc. Thankfully it still had relatable topics about relationships and her all-star cat ♥️
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️/5
This was an interesting one. It's between a so-so and a pick, but I'm going to go with pick because her story is definitely unique and I can't say I've ever read anything like it before. A few of the essays seemed like unnecessary filler but I did really appreciate her raw honesty and there were a few funny parts.
Samantha Irby‘s writing has been compared to Sloane Crosley, Laurie Notaro, Jenny Lawson and others whose work I adore. But, no offense authors I love, Irby is on another level- like a “get-on-my-level-son” level. I did some immersion reading and Irby sounds just as I‘d hoped on #Audible. I laughed out loud, all alone, in the bathtub, in the car, in bed and at work many, many times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I enjoyed this a lot more the second time. Although I could have done with a lot less “why I hate banging dudes,” overall, this collection of essays is funny, which is exactly what I needed. 4⭐️

Book 2 for 24in48!
I do love me a Samantha Irby essay collection. She is so funny and dry. The collection is so well-balanced, with laugh-out-loud lines about hanging out with moms, a spec she wrote for a TV show, and crusty garbage that guys pull, but then she‘ll hit you with a gorgeous piece like “My Mother, My Daughter” about taking care of her mom when she was really sick.
Join me for #StackAttack2019 I‘d ❤️ to see our stacks dwindle, so tag me please. I‘m going to keep count of my stack reads with a number at end of the post. I‘m only counting book owned prior to 2019.
I really liked Irby‘s 1st book and enjoyed this too. The sex related content is over-the-top and tiresome. She is self-aware and writes that she has a “child-like need to be shocking and provocative”. But overall, it‘s 3/5🐓s (1)
Hi! 👋👋 it‘s been a week! My first week back at it, I needed a wholesome meme. Samantha Irby posted this and I‘m feeling it. Especially after all the tidying up and Marie Kondo sparking joy
The beginning of this book, where she writes about her upbringing is amazing. I loved it. Then she devolves into whining and complaining about relationships and men, culminating in the longest essay in the book, Bitches are My Jam, which I hated. I was tempted to pan, but I remembered the beginning. 2.5⭐️

I‘m continuing with #nonfictionNovember and enjoying the three books in the top panel.
I just checked out Go Ask Alice because I have a library/Overdrive problem. Does anyone remember that Ask Alice internet thing from Columbia U health services where someone would answer sex/drug/life questions anonymously? Circa 1998?
Also I bought Fortune Smiles because it is the best #shortstory collection ever!
#riotgrams day seven: fun book dedication. Samantha Irby is the actual best. Read all of her stuff including the website bitches gotta eat
One of the funniest, raunchiest books I have had the pleasure to read. If bodily functions gross you out, do not read this book, but they are some of the funniest parts. I love Samantha Irby!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is her first book of essays. I just adore her honesty and hello she is funny as hell. Another great book and I am a total fan and hope she continues to write books because I will certainly continue to read them. I highly recommend the audiobook read by the author. She is fab! 💕
Book 1 of #24in48 is done!
1st book finished! So raw, so funny! Great collection of stories and I felt like built upon each other, each stringer than the last. 24in48 #readathon
More fabulousness from Samantha Irby. I was psyched to read it‘s in development with abbi Jacobsen for a show on FX!
