12 Rules for life is so far a brilliant book that stands apart from many in the self-help category, bc it is real, personal, basic, & incredibly insightful. But so many people take such offense to it! I'm 1/2 thru & haven't seen a shred of evidence that JBP is the corrupt alt-righter some claim he is. The interview he did about this book is especially absurd and hilarious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMcjxSThD54

Do you have a ridiculous, egregiously warped boss or workplace? This funny, serious, insightful book on applying zen to the absurdity at work might be just what you need. If your giant, stomping, self-involved boss is weighing you down--"It is Zen that enables one to take an object of enormous weight and size and mold it in one's grasp like a ball of Silly Putty. For senior management is, in truth, the silliest putty of them all."

"Borne was offering up so many approximations, so many near misses on what he meant that might have meant other things. Much later, when I realized this, i went back over our conversations in my memory, to see if i could translate them into some other meaning. But it was too late. They are what they are. They mean what they meant."
I'm rereading the whole book. Even if nothing changes *sniffle* I still want to understand these people better.?

Having a hard time getting through this in the kindle app. Love the amazon #readtheworld giveaway, but i think this is a book i need in paper. Keep wanting to flip to beginning to check character names, and just overall hard for me to get into language flow w constant swiping. Plus this is an 800 pg book, but it's 3 or 4 x that in the app bc of the short digital pages. Also the litsy 'add image' module stinks.

The Written World is the last book I cataloged in my #LibraryThing db, so thought I'd mention that LT is how I first heard of #Litsy, when they acquired it. This is why I'm experimenting with #littendom. Intrigued to see how they incorporate the 2...i can think of several neat features that would work btwn the 2...

mab-solenne Oh, and The Written World is really really interesting with many important things for a bouquinette to know! 7y
mab-solenne If you dont know LT, i was just describing to someone else so will share here 2: LT lets you catalog, sort, see rarity/popularity of things in your collections. You can also export, create your own OPAC (public catalog), and use the app as a barcode reader for checkouts. I'd rec for amateur librarians, pretty serious boom owners, or even insurance. And also good convos, few ads/weird comments, good giveaways, and really good recommendations. 7y
mab-solenne And free for 200 books, or $25 one time for unlimited. Not bad if u want to take care of a couple bookcases' worth (or more) that you know you'll keep or maybe eventually donate as a unit, or if you just want to document all the amazing collecting you've been doing over the years. I mean i like it. 7y

Bailedbailed

With such a great title, good critical reviews, an intriguing standalone plot, and creative dreamlike language, I went into it excited. After maybe 40 pages i had to bail. Couldn't shake a growing feeling of dread over the constant not-so-vague mysogenistic and pedophilic view of this character, which does not believably pass as part of a larger story or a necessary narrative that will ever grow beyond the awkward wet dream on these pages.

Pickpick

I think this book changed my life. At first i vetoed it, after the way 1 ended. But then i fell for it, hard. The whole series is so solid and smart, the magic less fantastic and more mathematical. And this book 2, with Julia, it's perfect. I can't abide the show tho.

RaimeyGallant Nice review! And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you need it.
