Finally read after years on my shelf and TBR list. A well researched and detailed book of the personal and business relationships between the Bush family and the House of Saud, and how those relationships remained after 9/11. Government is a dirty business.

The Outsider | Stephen King
Pickpick

The book pulled me in right away, beginning as a crime/murder story. Of course it does not stay that course, delving into the supernatural, the unexplained. Some weak spots with the character dialogue IMO, but a solid, enjoyable, and entertaining read.

I was aware of all of the accolades this book received, and can say they are well deserved. Several stories of young adults growing up in post Soviet Union Russia are woven together. It also takes a long look at the psyche of Russian citizens who were on the cusp of democracy but prefer the stability of a totalitarian state.

This was a thoroughly researched and detailed account of how the Mexican cartels came to power, especially the Sinaloa. The most difficult part for me, honestly, was keeping track of all the names involved: traffickers, politicians, law enforcement. They all work together to ensure Mexico remains a narco state. Kudos to Ms. Hernandez for the risk she took to get this book published.

Mehso-so

It was difficult for me to dive in and really get into this book, especially the first half. The second half pulled me in, providing suspense. Overall, a decent story with some touching moments.
