Question: do you reread the first book in a series before going on to next book or dive right in? I feel like I need to reread The Diabolic before I start the Empress! I usually don‘t reread though - too many books and not enough time!

It was pretty good but it didn‘t suck me. A few parts were pretty slow so I found myself skimming. If you like slow burn thrillers it‘s worth a shot. There is a trigger warning for the book but it‘s a little bit of a spoiler so I won‘t post about it. Feel free to ask though!

TBR for January. Keeping it small since I have a new baby and turning pages is hard while holding him! My resolution for 2018 is to work on my TBR shelf, which is quite out of control. Did you make any bookish resolutions? #bookishresolution

An interesting book but the only part that I found truly intriguing was the very end. Otherwise I found it lacking.

Arsenic with Austen: A Mystery | Katherine Bolger Hyde
Panpan

The mystery and setting were interesting but that's about it. The main character acted like an obnoxious teenager for most of the novel despite being supposedly 51. She was judgemental, immature and ridiculous for large parts of the book. The cop in the story couldn't figure anything out without her brilliant help.

Well written and bitingly snarky but every character was miserable and doing nothing to fix their lives. In the end it was to depressing for me.

This family drama story is a good read. I wanted a little more depth and a hint of magic or more about the family curse but I still enjoyed the characters and the journey they took in the story.

Solid writing and a good story but I just couldn't connect with the characters. I wanted the main character to be more than she was. Still worth a read if you like fantasy novels with a bit of magic in them.

The Diabolic | S. J. Kincaid

The Diabolic is brutal and forceful. Both of these characteristics are needed though to tell the story of Nemesis. She is a violent force to be reckoned with and some of her actions are a bit gruesome but I found myself liking her. There is a lot of death 💀 and a bit more blood and gore than I normally want in my books but I can overlook it. Hopefully you can too!

I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one. I don't really like the way the main character is developing and some of the parts seem awkward. I also wish there was a bit more history about the monsters.
