What the hell am I even reading and how is this not one of the most famous crazy and genius things?

The work of a man who does indeed have many fantastic ideas and a novel way of bringing them across, it nevertheless fails to ultimately register fear for someone who's heavily steeped in online horror stories, although someone with a softer disposition is likely to be effected. Want to read Ichor Falls next.

A collection containing the eponymous short story for which the collection is named after. I have high hopes; that story shook me in a way that nearly nothing else has ever managed.

It was alright. A great idea hampered nevertheless by a lack of focus and a lack of an active protagonist. #sophiedeservedbetter

Tokyo Pop went under, so finding the volumes has become a chore. Thankfully, my library is a part of the Interlibrary Loan system, so-!

weirdandwonderful I can hardly recall experiencing a greater sense of sense of dread while reading something, let alone a manga, than this volume engenders in me. A brutally dark, nauseating delicacy that should be consumed in short bites. 7y

Pickpick

If not for how charming and how it is a celebration of the culture and cuisine of Japan, this could have really fallen into the arena style narrative trap of one-upping another character with snobby points (and, oh, at times does it do JUST THAT). Thankfully, those parts are small matters amidst a great meal of charm, beautiful art, and moments of just lovely humanity, as well as genuinely caring if our hero can beat his father.

Ugh, even though I remember not being a fan of the movie, I started reading this. This far into the book, I'm starting to remember why it is I was perhaps not a fan of the movie. So slow! I get it, it's a Moving Castle, but why does she never seem to leave it? And I know that Sophie is an old woman now, but all she ever does is clean and complain about Howl.

I'm going a few more chapters before I set this aside. After all, this chapter IS...

weirdandwonderful All right, I live to be proven wrong. Starting with this chapter, I really start to feel like Sophie comes into her own. I'm also fond of her relationship with Michael, and her ambivalent one with Howl. 7y

Kind of loses its "punch" when you've already seen the anime. At least the show is a good representation of the books.
