Read Harder 2019 is off to a surprisingly good start - tackling Manga. This is actually a really fun and educational series and I learnt a terrific amount about Japanese food culture and philosophy. It‘s a little crazy at times and is more a series of lessons than a complete story but I am contemplating reading the entire series ! Another Read Harder success story.

🥢A seinen series about JPN cuisine & one man‘s quest to prove to his father you can be a gourmet lover w/o being an ass about it.
🥢Has tons of useful info & techniques on prep & cooking methods for various traditional JPN food.
🥢The plot point is mediocre, but the depth of information on what makes JPN cuisine so “Japanese” is very fascinating.
🥢Artwork makes it difficult to decipher certain dishes.
🥢Dude‘s dad is a total ASSHOLE.
🥢4/5
So I snagged the entire 7-Volume series from the library a couple weeks ago. Since I‘m on bedrest this weekend, I‘m hoping to make my way through most of it. I love Japanese cuisine, so I‘m very eager to see what this thing‘s all about.

If not for how charming and how it is a celebration of the culture and cuisine of Japan, this could have really fallen into the arena style narrative trap of one-upping another character with snobby points (and, oh, at times does it do JUST THAT). Thankfully, those parts are small matters amidst a great meal of charm, beautiful art, and moments of just lovely humanity, as well as genuinely caring if our hero can beat his father.

Though not really cookbooks, I love this manga series because it talks about the love for cooking while describing some of the history and tradition of Japan‘s most iconic dishes as well as how the dishes are prepared. They do include recipes and cooking tips! #photoadaynov16 #cookbooklove
#FaveGraphicNovels. I don't read very many graphic novels but this series that teaches you about Japanese food and culture (with a bit of adventure thrown in) is pretty great. And they all have recipes, too! 🇯🇵 #Booktober
Well... that was convenient 😏 #bookrainbow #SomethingforSept
