"Magnificent and unsettling." --Marie Lu,New York TimesBestselling author of the Legend TrilogyA death-defying tropical adventure delivers a frightening message about dabbling with creation from the talented author of Origin. But they also have one enormous flaw. Sophie Crue is determined to get to Skin Island and find her mother, a scientist who left Sophie behind years ago. She enlists hunky charter pilot Jim Julien to take her there. But once on the island, Sophie and Jim encounter more than they bargained for, including a charming, brilliant Vitro named Nicholas and an innocent, newly awoken one named Lux. In a race for their lives, Sophie and Jim are about to discover what happens when science stretches too far beyond its reach. From the Trade Paperback edition.

This one didn't seem as fleshed out as Origins but I still enjoyed it. I've got the next on order from the library so I hope to finish it all up in a week.

Mehso-so

3/5⭐ The plot was thin. The first 2/3 dragged. The end action & character motivations seemed forced or obviously, deliberately placed just to reach a conclusion. I wasn't invested in the characters, plot, or atmosphere like I was in the first book, Origin. The switching POV chapters didn't help with cohesion. It did have some important themes, especially surrounding Sophie's independence & the morality of the Vitros' treatment. #projectSAMS

Mehso-so

I did love the idea of the general story line with the exceptional twins and secret island and all that. However, I feel as though it could have been written.... better when it came to details and little scenes. The writing style is not my favorite as the beginning wasn't too exciting; nor were the characters very relatable. The chain of events weren't my cup of tea, but I'm going to read it again to see if my opinion changes.

I am honestly on chapter 5. I've had a major reading-block. It makes me sad. Either way, here is my first post here.
What I know:
-Mad Scientist for sure
-I've read another book by the same author and enjoyed it

No spoilers, yet.
