“Sirens wailed through the streets of Sherwood, no doubt looking for them“
This book is a good representation of a female main character. The book shares similarities to Robin Hood. Students could read this book and try to make connections between the Shadows of Sherwood and Robin Hood. This book would be good for grades 4-6.
Shadows of Sherwood follows a girl named Robyn. Robyn recently had to flee her home after her parents disappeared. She connected with a group of strangers who each had special skills for surviving city life. The group tries to find clues to solve the government's wrong-doings, while Robyn tries to figure out what happened to her parents. This is an adventure fiction book, with a dystopian setting for the series. It shares similarities to Robin.
I‘m sooo close to a blackout on SRP bingo!
This modern MG update of Robin Hood stars Robyn, whose parents disappear in a governmental “restructuring.” During her search for answers Robyn gathers an unlikely band of allies and begins a plot to aid the people of Sherwood.
It‘s not bad, not sure when I‘ll continue the series though. Low pick.
This was was SO fun! It‘s a modern day retelling of Robin Hood with a 12 year old girl as Robin. Quick and action packed (there are so many heists!), but it has heartfelt moments as well. Reminded me a bit of Marissa Meyer‘s retelling, but without the romantic entanglements (I‘m 100% for heroines that don‘t need a love interest). Overall just a really entertaining and under appreciated read. Can‘t wait to check out the other books in the series.
“Citizens would do well to respect the new regime,” Crown said, his face coming into focus again. “Dissent will not be tolerated. But law-abiding citizens have nothing to fear. This is a glorious day for all of us. Nott City will be great again. I will see to it.”
I subbed in a predominantly white school in a red state today. I left these books there. Because books have the power to change hearts, we need diverse books, and love trumps hate.
Joy already loving SHADOWS OF SHERWOOD, gender-swapped retelling of Robin Hood in the city. Squeezing in a few pages before school.
