America has two simultaneous narratives of race, both of progress: racial progress and racist progress. The racist is in ascendance again. That's why knowledge is important and powerful. #shinealight #Weholdtheline

Yeah_I_Read I want to read this! 7y
rebecca_lib My local public radio keeps playing a speech by the author during their fund drive and it's great stuff. 7y

Good tips that seem particularly relevant and meaningful at this time, such as focusing your energy on the victim and not on the perpetrator #WeHoldTheLine #Viking

In the Darkroom | Susan Faludi
post image

Now Faludi is discussing Hungary's current (re)turn to virulent anti-semitism, totalitarianism, and fascist ideals, in the name of "Hungarian Hungary." It is terrifying. I highly recommend this book, not as memoir, but as cautionary tale. It is most compelling not when discussing transsexualism, but how issues of identity are preempted by far-right elements to fuel hatred and oppression. #WeHoldTheLine #BeInformed

We Should All Be Feminists | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Beware of normalizing unacceptable behavior: "If we do something over and over again, it becomes normal. If we see the same thing over and over again, it becomes normal." #truth #feministbooks #WeHoldTheLine

saresmoore That's literally how our brains work! 7y
LauraBeth Doing something that is good for you, over and over again, until it becomes normal - is creating good habits. Doing something that is bad for you, or accepting bad behavior, over and over again until it's normal - that is insanity. 7y
mcipher This is why Trump got elected, IMHO. We saw him all over CNN and he became an acceptable choice because he was always on our faces. 7y

Heatherine I was reading an article on strategies on how to deal with the next four years and one of the suggestions was to put up a post it note that says "this is not normal". That way a few months down the road, we are reminded that this is not okay. http://www.upworthy.com/25-things-to-do-during-the-inauguration-if-youre-afraid-... 7y
Laura317 Just because "it's always been done that way" doesn't been it's right. It may be "normal" and still wrong. 7y
Lmstraubie @Heatherine The post-it note idea - so simple, yet so powerful 💪 7y
Gissy That's why breaking, changing, modifying a dysfunctional behavior or a distorted perception to a stable one could become so difficult sometimes. But we can do it! Positive thinking!!! 7y
