Street of the Five Moons
Street of the Five Moons | Elizabeth Peters

What did it mean? The note with the hieroglyphs was found in the pocket of a man lying dead in an alley. The only other item of interest on him was a piece of jewellery, a reproduction of the Charlemagne talisman, but so well done that Vicky Bliss thought she was being shown the real thing. The gold work had been done by a master craftsman; the stones were of top quality synthetic...Vicky didn't know what it meant yet, but ion the sundrenched streets and moonlit courtyards of Rome, she was going to find out - if the dangerously exciting Englishman didn't get in her way!

I still like the Peabody series better, but that may be partly because I read them first and have reread them all at least twice. That being said, I did enjoy the mystery, the secondary characters, and John Smythe. He reminds me of Sethos from the Peabody series, and I adore Sethos. Also, appreciate the lack of gore and violence that is found in more modern crime thrillers. Barbara Rosenblat does a great job narrating, as always.

LeslieO I listened to the Peabody‘s because of Barbara Rosenblatt. 💙 4y

#20series20days The Vicky Bliss series

Not all the novels in this series are wonderful, but Street of the Five Moons and Trojan Gold are. And Night Train to Memphis is my favourite comfort read. There is also a prequel of sorts - The Camelot Caper.

TheAromaofBooks Oh I quite enjoyed these! 4y
LeahBergen I was waiting for this! I STILL haven‘t read any of her Vicky Bliss books but I‘ve enjoyed many others. I also really liked her writings on Egyptian history (and I have a cute little first edition of The Jackal‘s Head; have you read that one?). 4y
Ruthiella I‘ve only listened to The Laughter of Dead Kings but really enjoyed it. Spoiler Alert! I will be including the Amelia Peabody series in my 20! 😀 4y

Texreader I have a few of her books I traded for in little free libraries but haven‘t read them yet. 4y
CarolynM @LeahBergen I've read all the Elizabeth Peters books and quite a few of the Barbara Michaels ones too. The Jackal's Head is an early one. I think you'd like Vicky Bliss. 4y
CarolynM @Ruthiella I liked the post modern author appearance in Laughter of Dead Kings, but otherwise it's not a favourite. I'd encourage you to read the others, especially the three I singled out. I'm pretty sure Amelia will be one of my 20 too, I'm even considering the Jacqueline Kirby series🙂 4y
CarolynM @Texreader Read them, they're great🙂 4y
Andrew65 Not aware of this series, will check it out. 4y

Love this follow up. Once again, you have to take the story in the context in which it was set but I love how independent Vicky is and how she cooperates when needed. The scheme the villains are operating is quite genius when you think about it. Makes me wonder how many fakes are actually out there.

CarolynM I love these books. I would like to be Vicky Bliss🙂 6y

Dinner and a good book! I'm re-reading on of my favorites, the second Vicky Bliss book. #cozymystery #cozy #suspense #bookswithbanter #amreading #reread

SheReadsAndWrites I LOVE her Amelia Peabody series (my dog is named Ramses 😊) but never got into this series. Is it good?? 8y
SaraRosett I really like it! Love the different locales and the banter between Vicky and John Smythe--he doesn't show up until the 2nd book (the Five Moons). I love Amelia but tapered off reading those after about book 14 or 15. 8y

I love re-reading Elizabeth Peters. Her books are light and fun but also touch on topics and themes that are as timely today as they were when the book was published over 40 (!) years ago. #cozymystery #mystery #suspense

Nursing a strained muscle in my back and enjoying my go-to indulgent character, Vicky Bliss, on this dreary, cold afternoon. #OctoberPhotoChallenge #GirlCrush
