The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp
The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp | Rick Yancey
5 posts | 10 read | 8 to read
Alfred Kropp was just trying to survive high school when his guardian uncle gets him roped into a suspicious get-rich-quick scheme that changes his life forever: stealing Excalibur - the legendary sword of King Arthur. But after Alfred unwittingly delivers the sword into the hands of the enemy, he sets off on an unlikely quest to try to right his wrong and save the world from imminent destruction. This gripping, fast-paced, and often hilarious novel is both a thrilling adventure story and an engaging account of one boy's coming of age.

Pickpick

An action packed book with a reluctant hero. This is a Rick Riordan type story meets the legends of King Arthur & throw in a little James Bond spy thriller.

I loved that Alfred is not the big hero who finds some special power & starts winning everything. He‘s awkward & unsure & makes plenty of mistakes, but honorable to a fault. I‘m curious to see what he does in book 2.

March #bookspin YA title finished the end of March + recommended by my son

This afternoon is for reading and making my April #bookspin list!

My son asked me to read this book next because he really loved it. So far it‘s fantastic! My March #bookspin was a young adult book choice and this fits perfectly ... win-win! Also, I think this cover is excellent ❤️

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I made my list this afternoon, too!! Getting excited about April's books!! 4y

#MayMadness new to you authors

I didn‘t know Rick Yancey before reading this. The book was okay. Definitely aimed at younger audiences, like the HP books 1-3 age group. My full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2814992979

BeansPage Love the cover though 6y
wanderinglynn @TheReadingMermaid the cover is the main reason I picked it up at a yard sale. Plus the title sounded fun. It‘s not a bad book, just written for a younger audience. 6y
BeansPage Ah, I've come across a few of those too. 6y

So far I‘m enjoying the story. But this bugs me: every chapter that ends on the right page, then the next page is blank. But they‘re still counting that page for the page numbers. It‘s such a waste of space and it interrupts my reading flow.

Plus the huge amount of space at the bottom margin. This book could‘ve easily been resized a bit smaller and wasted less paper.

SoapboxEdits Interesting choices for layout, for sure. 6y
LoverofLit I'm so glad I'm not the only one bothered by stuff like this while reading! 6y
