The only one of this week‘s new to me seasonal picture books that really stood out was the tagged book. It captured a charming childhood magic, and I will definitely revisit it with little ones.
I would also use the more scientific pages of The Reasons for Seasons as a teaching tool in the future. It has a really straightforward explanation of why the tilt of the earth on its axis leads to changes in temperature throughout the year.
pickI wanted to read this again after tomte came up in another book I was reading. This time, knowing more about tomte as a Nordic folk figure, I definitely found more pleasure in the story but a little background in the book itself would have helped. Also, I found it strange that the tomte's words are sometimes set differently from the rest of the text and sometimes not- a distracting design issue.

Whee! The husband watched the kids while I ran off to the library book sale for a good thirty minutes. Picked up these books for the kids (ok so the Tomten might have been more for me) and some books for myself (see next post) for $12 (and donated the change from my $20).
