I've heard so much about this, how different it supposedly is from other fantasy books. So, let's see...

GondorGirl One of my favorite series! 😍 2y

Still on the Path of Daggers.
Enjoying the second half of it together with some afternoon sun in Athens, Greece.
The tv series is starting soon and the fandom has been going crazy over on Twitter. I'm still on my first read of the series, but the die-hard fans' enthusiasm is infectious 😄

I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous one, mostly due to the certain secondary characters not appearing, but the surprise ending makes me want to start the next one straight away.

A bit weary of the mentioning of industrialisation, but I still trust Abercrombie to deliver once again. Let's see, if the age of machines and fantasy can mix.

Whispers Under Ground | Ben Aaronovitch

For me, the best instalment in the series so far.
I loved the development and increased attention some of the secondary characters got and the addition to the more permanent roster of some very promising new ones.
Makes me very excited for the next book in the series.

This commute to my current interpreting assignment is giving me some serious reading time, so I'm about to finish the second book in the series.
It's much mellower than other urban fantasy series I've rrad, but I like the characters and the mix of science and magic.

RachelAmphlett I love book 3, Whispers Underground - this series kept me going while I was waiting for the new Harry Dresden ones! 3y
Katerina @RachelAmphlett Dresden Files is what I measure every other urban fantasy series against XD
I'm on Whispers Underground now and excited to have Abigail back! I hopw she becomes a recurring character.

Giving this a second try now. Last time (a couple of years ago) I only made it to about page 60 before something else caught my fancy. Let's see what happens this time.

I've unintentionally managed to colour coordinate with my book today 😃
I've also just finished it and must say that I liked it a lot. For me, it is one of these calm books, that draws you in and makes you wish it could last forever, because you just want to go on meeting more and more of the engaging characters.
I have some thoughts about the role of race and colour, but I have to sort them first.

Recommended reading 😊

Six of Crows | Leigh Bardugo
post image

Well, it's not on to Wheel of Time #8, because the book is at my brother's place 😐

I bought Six of Crows a while ago, because I liked the premise of the rag-tag band of outcasts working together and I have to say that the read is as pleasant as I had hoped for and even more engaging than I had expected.
There is a nice balance between foreshadowing and ominous hints and the eventual reveal.
I really enjoy the characters and the worldbuilding.

JillsBookshelf This is one of my favorites! I recently finished the show and I really want to reread it soon. ❤️ 4y
LazyOwl I enjoyed this much more than the Shadow and Bone series. This was such a fun book. 4y
Katerina @LazyOwl I remember reading a blurb about Shadow and Bone and it didn't really appeal to me. I don't think I'll read it. I've already ordered Crooked Kingdom, though 😃 I heard something about a third book in the Crows series and if Crooked Kingdom is anything like Six of Crows, it'll go on my TBR straight away. 4y
Katerina @JillsBookshelf I haven't read Shadow and Bones and probably won't, but I'm looking forward to watching the series. 4y
JillsBookshelf It‘s much better than I expected to be and the parts with the Crows are my favorite. I hope you enjoy it! 4y

It's a bank holiday where I live, so this is what I've been doing more or less all day today and it has been glorious, after a few weeks of successive interpreting and translation assignments.
30 pages left and then it's straight on to The Path of Daggers.
My reading slump seems to be receding, thank the Light.

Time to catch up on Black Magic. If someone is looking for a witchy read for ghost season, then I recommend this series!
The art is stunning and the use of sepia tones and bursts of colour inspired.
The story is multilayered as well and keeps you wondering when and how it will all come (or maybe crash?) together.

Tuesday is the day :D

RachelAmphlett Yassss! My copy‘s on order! 4y
Traci1 I'm first in line at the library for this one, but I think I might just have to use an audible credit anyway. I love these on audio. 4y
Katerina @RachelAmphlett Mine too 😃 I'll be scraping on the bookshop's door Tuesday morning 😁 4y
Katerina @Traci1 I haven't heard any of the audiobooks yet. I might, when the series is complete. I think we have 5 books left? But I liked Marsters in the Big Finish Torchwood series. 4y
Traci1 @Katerina he does a good job...after about book 4 or 5. The first ones were done by a different company, and they didn't edit out odd noises. Marsters apparently has a very wet way of speaking. There were lots of awful slurpy sounds that were super annoying in those first books. After that, they're great. 4y

It's just 2 issues in, but I have high hopes. There is some very promising foreshadowing and Young's art is a perfect match (Bachalo would have been my dream choice, but we can't have everything. #comics #marvel

So true! I once read a short article by a guy, who calculated how many books he would still be able to read in his lifetime (I think he was in his 40ies) and it was a shockingly low number 😅. Then considering all the rereads I like to do.... Better not think about it and just keep on reading :P

keys_on_fire On Goodreads there is a group that is trying to read a million pages in a lifetime. Now, I can‘t remember how many times I reread certain books as a kid, but I am only in the 250,000 pages range. Still, it‘s fun to track! 4y

But what if the coffee already is cold? A small cafe in Tokyo lets you travel back in time, but you have to come back before the coffee you were served gets cold.
Starting it now 😊

heikemarie This is a cute premise! 4y
Katerina @heikemarie It is a bit theatre-like, since it is all set in that one little cafe, but I really like it so far. It's written in episodes, but with a connecting thread. 4y
heikemarie @Katerina I can get behind something in scenes when I‘m in a certain mood! I‘ll look forward to your final review. 😊 4y

Pandemic, social distancing, lockdown, tons of time to stay home and read. A book worms dream, right? Well, not for me. I've been in a complete reading slump since this whole mess started. I have books I've been dying to read and have even bought new ones, but lack the drive to actually pick them up. Audio books and podcasts, yes. Books, no. I don't know why. I hope the new Dresden Files book, which has been 6 years the making, changes things.

A science crew who finance their scientific mission into outer space by shooting and streaming an adult movie with each new species they encounter? That sounds so delightfully absurd that I just had to give it a try. The first issue did not disappoint, funny with a nice dose of space adventure.
