All of the people posting The Secret Garden lately made me think of one of my favorite Noel Streatfeild books (this is the U.K. Edition, it's also known as Movie Shoes in the US). British girl in California gets roped into playing Mary in a film version of The Secret Garden, with her story often paralleling the story of the original book as we follow her along on her adventure. A superb lesser known Streatfeild. #photoadaynov16 #childprotagonist

rockpools I had the very same edition - I read it so many times! 7y
LeahBergen Loved it!! 7y

GlitteryOtters @rubyslippersreads yes, you totally should! It isn't in my top tier of favorite Noel Streatfeild books, but it is pretty high up in my second tier. It is a good one! 7y
GlitteryOtters @LeahBergen I reread it waaaaay too often 7y
GlitteryOtters @RachelO I grew up with the early 1980s US Dell editions (courtesy of the library at my mom's house--used to read & reread all the Streatfeilds they had every time I visited her for the summers). One of my goals once I reached adulthood & had a full time job was to get as many of her books as I could lay my hands on. I managed to get 32 of them, which isn't bad considering that only 3 were in print in my country at the time! 😂 7y
Bradleygirl I LOVED THIS. Read the same edition too! So hard to find, and I'm sad or library has criminally few Streatfeilds. 7y
rockpools @GlitteryOtters 32? Wow! I had no idea there were so many out there ! Apple Bough was my absolute favourite book as a kid. 7y
GlitteryOtters @RachelO I know, she has written a ton of books! I had no clue when I was a kid (loved Apple Bough, too-Traveling Shoes in US). I haven't seen a complete bibliographies of her works online (the best Streatfeild site has only a selected bibliography), but once my husband is awake I'll check the biography I have about her to see if it lists one. If so, I'll post it (it is on shelves right by his sleeping head, so it is inaccessible at the moment 😂) 7y
GlitteryOtters @RachelO looks like the biography by Nancy Huse has the same "selected bibliography" that you see over on http://www.whitegauntlet.com.au/noelstreatfeild/ It is definitely not complete as I own a few books that are not on it. That lady was prolific!! 7y
rockpools @GlitteryOtters Wow. Thank you! That'll keep me going for a while 😉 I've actually read more of the children's books than I thought - must have found library copies of them at some point. Had No Idea about the adult novels or pen name though, so will have fun trying thise. Are there any you're particularly looking for still? 7y
GlitteryOtters @RachelO i love that there are so many books by her, I don't think it is humanly possible for me to locate and purchase all of them, which is kinda awesome. I think I've managed to find all of my "must have" Streatfeilds, now I need to a) buy more of her adult novels (I only have Saplings) and b) grab up anything I don't already own if/when I find it. 7y
