I didn't think I had any books from #indiepresses on my shelf, but I found this one from Goose Lane, a Canadian independent publisher based out of New Brunswick. Secret Life is a book by a Toronto Star reporter recounting his investigative journalism into the sexual assault case of a Canadian broadcaster, Jian Ghomeshi. It was a difficult book to read because of the topic and was mostly a retread of the reporting done on the case. #AndItsAugust
pickI tore a hole through this book today. It gave good insight into how Investigative journalism works in the age of social media. Also, Borel is brilliant. My ❤️goes out to the survivors.
Confronting this tendency to equate anonymous with inconsequential has IMHO been one of the key takeaways of the Jian Ghomeshi trial experience. We need to take a hard look at why sexual abuse survivors don't feel comfortable coming forward and publicly attaching their names to their stories
