Unfortunately not what I hoped for... I think the saving grace of this was that I listened to it on #audiobook and the narrator kept me interested in the different travelogues. But it still could not keep my interest. 😞
Counting this as #somethingwithhistory for #nonfiction2019 as some history of Patagonia was woven in with Chatwin's travelogues.

Saw these Vibtage Voyages titles at the cruise‘s bookshop. They sound great for #armchairtravellers .

readinginthedark I love Virginia Woolf! Not much traveling in the book, though. More in her book, The Voyage Out. 5y

I‘m not sure why this is considered a classic as I don‘t really feel that I‘ve learned much about Patagonia at all. Instead of Chatwin‘s mostly insignificant anecdotes, I‘d have preferred to learn a little about the environment, nature, culture and politics of the place. There were some enjoyable snippets though so “In Patagonia” is getting 2 stars from me.

My full review is up on my blog now 📚

This is... strange.... The writing is delightful and evocative, but the book is very disjointed. I'm not entirely sure what Chatwin was trying to do. Still, it's an enjoyable read.

The trouble with working in a bookshop is that most of my pay packets goes back to the people who pay me! The travel writing binge continues with these two beauties 😍😍 one for Venice (where I‘ve been) and one for Patagonia (which is on the list)

Pickpick

Came in expecting a philosophical, intellectual travel narrative, instead found a collection of tales told by that avuncular black sheep uncle, which we all wished we had, about the time he went to Patagonia on a whim, to follow up a family legend. Chatwin travelled to Patagonia with not much more than a backpack, hiking, hitching lifts, meeting strange forgotten immigrant communities, investigating a remote insular part of the world.
