Foundation and Earth
Foundation and Earth | Isaac Asimov
6 posts | 29 read | 13 to read
The fifth novel in Asimov's popular Foundation series opens with second thoughts. Councilman Golan Trevize is wondering if he was right to choose a collective mind as the best possible future for humanity over the anarchy of contentious individuals, nations and planets. To test his conclusion, he decides he must know the past and goes in search of legendary Earth, all references to which have been erased from galactic libraries. The societies encountered along the way become arguing points in a book-long colloquy about man's fate, conducted by Trevize and traveling companion Bliss, who is part of the first world/mind, Gaia. From the Paperback edition.

I was enjoying this book and then this male fantasy crap came along. It goes on for pages...

Suelizbeth Skip that, if you must, but read the rest of the book. It‘s worth it. I have reread the entire series, and this book in particular, many times, and I always come away with something new. 5y
LauraJ @Suelizbeth This is the last of the Foundation series...then I start on the robots. This is out of character with the rest of the series, otherwise, it‘s good. (edited) 5y
Suelizbeth @LauraJ I agree. Otherwise, a fabulous series. 5y

I have read this book at least 6 times (the whole series really) and I always find myself coming back to it eventually. I love the parallels of looking for Earth 20,000 years in the future to our own hunt for our origins today.

It's a delight to find books I've read in English in German! I'm just scared I don't have the patience to trudge through a foreign language...
