However, locked safely in his cellar at night, in his dreams Lonan finds himself looking through the eyes of a young prince... Adahy has a destiny, and it terrifies him. How can he hope to live up to the legend of the Magpie King, to become the supernatural protector of the forest and defender of his people? But when the forest is invaded by an inhuman force, Adahy must rise to this challenge or let the Wolves destroy his people. Watching these events unfold in his sleep, Lonan must do what he can to protect his village from this new threat. He is the only person who can keep his loved ones from being stolen away after dark, and to do so he will have to earn back their trust or watch the monsters kill everyone that he holds dear. I was pitched this book as an adult fantasy horror. It‘s not. It‘s a young adult fantasy thriller. It took me a while to get into the author‘s writing style but when I did, I realised that I didn‘t really care about the plot. I don‘t think it‘s a bad book; I‘m just obviously not the target audience for this one.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive collection of books. No explanation as to why I have this book. Play along and tag me. #tbrpile. Day #28

I am posting one book per day from my extensive collection of books. No eco action why I own this book. I got into bed before snapping a pic of a physical book so I‘m using one from my Kindle. #tbrpile. Day #27

I have no idea if these books are any good or anything about the author but I'm having a serious love affair with these covers. I love the colors and the 3D visual aspect.

Gotta admit that this was mostly a cover but since its so BAMF. But I was still pleasantly surprised with the blending of myth and folklore telling in this one.

Pickpick

This is a dark folktale woven in with short stories from the land. It took a couple turns and came to a conclusion I didn't expect which is always a nice surprise! Immensely readable, ideally with the lights on. 8/10, recommend reading at sunset for maximum chills.

Just started this one, and am delighted to discover that between every chapter is a short folktale! What a clever addition to an already intriguing tale, this is turning into a fantastic November read.
