March 2025 Book #8 last book read in March
I know this book was well accepted and won The Booker Price 2024 but I liked it not loved it. It didn‘t work for me. But I have to say that I like the writing style, it was the story that I didn‘t like much. Maybe my perspective about the relationship between these two women is different. I don‘t know but I saw a toxic dysfunctional relationship very manipulative and convenient. ⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) It didn‘t happen much in the story, it was slow and even boring for me. But I‘m a minority here. 3⭐️Maybe my expectations were so high based on reviews. 🤷🏽‍♀️But I bought the uk edition, so pretty. What I am going to do with it? No decision made yet😂

#BookerLonglist #6

A highly original novel about 3 Ukrainian women on a road trip with some men they keep captive while Russia invades their country. Also, they are looking for a special kind of snail. I loved the fist half and the part which is an interlude by the author herself. Then however I lost interest a bit. So many super interesting story lines and yet I felt like nothing much happened. A so-so for me.

squirrelbrain Yes, I felt like this could have done with some tightening up in the second half. 2mo
Graywacke Totally opposite for me. ☺️ Didn‘t like the 1st 100 pages. After the meta, the story could have done anything and I would have loved it. How many more, B? (edited) 2mo
BarbaraBB @Graywacke That‘s a wonderful experience! I don‘t have any other nominated books at hand right now. I‘ll wait for the shortlist and continue afterwards. I have read the six books that most appealed to me. 2mo

Graywacke @BarbaraBB good plan! 2mo
Suet624 Rats! I really liked this one. 2mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 I know. I was surprised I didn‘t like it as much as you did 2mo
Suet624 As you know, sometimes it‘s just the timing. I think I had been reading books I really wasn‘t so happy with right before I read Endling and I was just delighted by the composition of the book. 2mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 So true. And I have felt so restless lately that I found it hard to concentrate on that same composition! 2mo

I nearly stopped reading a few chapters from the end. I was displeased. But she pulled it out in the end and even ended on a vaguely ominous happy note. On to the next in the series. #28-2025

JenlovesJT47 If you‘re talking about what I think you‘re talking about, I had to stop and reread that section three times, blinked slowly then skipped ahead a few pages to make sure, well, you know! 😆 5mo

Not a story for the ages, but def a story my age. Lila is 42 and her life is chaos. I don‘t have her issues, but can relate to some of how she feels. Beautiful character development about people who make mistakes and learn how to work through them. Book #28 in 2025

January 2025 Book #2
Dimpsie invited some friends from the theater to spend Christmas with him in his castle located in a private island near to Edinburgh. Dimpsie was found dead near to the tree which appear to be an accidental death…Dun Dun Dunnnand the drama begins….
Quite predictable 😏 with some funny scenes but predictable. I enjoyed it as a holiday read. It should be a so-so but I usually enjoy these crime classic stories🤷🏽‍♀️3⭐️

I really fell behind on my August reading (and probably life in general). I am still working on the roll #28 (tagged) for August's #Roll100, which I am enjoying. I am also more than halfway through Fingersmith for August's #AuthorAMonth. Hoping to read a lot today and tomorrow.

I read this book for a Readathon I was participating and it was an opportunity to read an old book in my tbr. That means I was in the summer mood and found it okay. However, this is a quite typical mermaid story with a YA cheesy romance with a not so easy male protagonist. I found Galen likes to control others, what happen with these male characters? But I liked the world and plot in general. There were sad parts 2.9/3⭐️

Gissy (Cont.) at the end of each book in this trilogy, you will find an interview with the author. She made some negative comments about Stephanie Meyer indicating that if “...Meyer can write a book, then you (author) can”. Does she think that her trilogy is superior to The Teilight Saga?😳A. Banks, your trilogy is not superior, I found it almost in the same line: YA cheesy regular, reading that we decided to read. Who this author think she is? 😐 1y

Suet624 It sure seems like a negative thing to say about a fellow author! 1y
Gissy @Suet624 Yes, she said is conscious of her comment because she added “...One day, Stephanie Meyer is going to give me a bloody nose....Could you come at me from the right side?...”😳Violent too. Definitely she thinks her books are a master piece😐🤷🏽‍♀️ 1y
