I am so HERE for this book! Sci-fi is not normally my wheelhouse - I live firmly in the fantasy camp, with other genres mixed in occasionally. The Collapsing Empire was a delight - funny and fascinating and without meaning to, feeling very timely. This book begins at the end of a dynasty, I can't wait to see how it plays out!12/10
P.s. Scalzi neatly solved a tired trope: Unprepared relativd ascends throne after untimely death of appropriate heir.

This arrived today!! I was so lucky to win an ARC from Goodreads. I read the first book in this trilogy on my honeymoon, so it's tied to lots of warm fuzzy memories in addition to being a great read. The second book did not disappoint, and now a sneak peek at the third! Dropping everything, this series is just too great to delay!

The Rook was a weird, fun ride. Myfanwy(rhymes with Tiffany) Thomas is the engaging amnesiac supernatural protag I never knew I needed. 11/10, have ordered a copy of the sequel already!

V.E. Schwab writes books that never fail to engage, thrill, horrify, and delight me. ACOL is the final chapter of a trilogy that began with A Gathering of Shadows, and it is an entirely satisfying, wonderful conclusion. All of the feels, for sure. 12/10, have already pre-ordered the collectors edition coming in fall of the first book.

What a dark, twisted tale. And that surprise ending everyone's raving about? It is NO JOKE. Get your hands on this one and delight in the haunted corners of Pinborough's mind. 11/10, nerves still jangling from the final, hairpin turn.

P.S. There was one mild sci-fi element I didn't expect, that nearly threw me out of the story- not bad, just unexpected in this particular book, and it nearly rang false. Didn't wind up mattering, still loved it!

I started this book at around 4pm today, and didn't put it down until just now, after reading the last page. Positively immersive - hints of the Night Circus, what a treat!

" A curving lane to the girl's left lit up with puddles of burning silver wax that made the way glitter in the dark....[...] a sudden breeze swayed hanging paper lanterns to life, casting a pumpkin-orange glow above a sloping trail" Stephanie Garber loves colorful descriptions, and I'm not sad about that at all.

The fourth course in Matt Wallace's Sin Du Jour series (which is deliciois reading any day of the week) and I'm so excited to dig in!

I swallowed this whole in 2 days. Kevin Wilson has written an amazing character study, so poignant and fun. It reminded me of how I felt after reading 'Room' - similar and yet totally different. 11/10, set aside time, you won't want to stop reading this one.

Just got this from the library and immediately set everything else aside to dive in - I'm 4 chapters in already and I know it'll be a quick read, the characters are captivating, I'm completely drawn in. One big happy family... or are they? Off to find out!

What a surprise, to start this book and find it is parallelling our political world so closely right now. A crazed emperor who kills everyone who speaks out against him. A regent scholar obsessed with being 'ten, no twenty times better' than a peer. Even an inexperienced, albeit young, boy takes over the throne. Is it just that autocrats look the same where ever they crop up? This one is very #makemordorgreatagain and I'm not sad about that at all

Only read the introduction, but Klosterman has already convinced me that maybe we're wrong about gravity... I am so here for this book.

I wanted to like this so much, but it wasn't for me - I got tired of Briddey running around trying to avoid everyone constantly. I am curious about how it ends so maybe I'll return to it eventually but for now, it's time to admit I bailed.

What a midwinter tale - perfect January read, this was a dark, beautiful fairytale composed of female strength and coming of age. 12/10, read this in winter, preferably in front of a fire while snow is falling.

Outstanding second book by Susan Dennard! This was delightful and hit all my buttons. Unique world-building and a diverse cast, coupled with a fascinating magical system. Love it, 12/10 dragged it out so it wouldn't end, still sad it is over.

A lovely conclusion to this fantastical trilogy. Bittersweet, but fitting, it felt right, which is always the best kind of finale. 10/10, read with kleenex handy.

..."worth all of its sufferings to find out the ending." This struck me as something so totally true to myself as a reader. The story is the compelling thing, in spite of what suffering we find along the way to the end. I think we've all suffered for the best stories, haven't we?

Ordered on Amazon and it arrived a day before it is released! I was going to wait until I finished something else to start because my currently reading stack is whoa, but I couldn't resist... 3 chapters in and it's as much fun as the first book!

Jumping on the 2017 resolution bandwagon! Starting off on the right foot with Paper Menagerie by Ken Liu, already wonderful...

Book 2 of the Indranan War series continues to be a wickedly fun romp trough Wagers' far-flung galaxy. I loved getting to visit Hail's past as a gunrunner more in-depth and seeing relationships grow and change. These books feel like The Goblin Emperor meets Firefly, and I dig that. 11/10 waiting anxiously for book 3.

This chapter really hit me hard... the gulf isn't only between doing something and being guilty, it's there in between reality and justice. Our world is not balanced, now is the time for change, not fear, and not polite acquiescence.

Scythe was a fantastic joy to read, with unexpected turns and a truly engaging future world. I especially enjoyed the nameplay used throughout - Shusterman has woven a moving story with a deft touch. 11/10 waiting eagerly for book 2!

This is a dark folktale woven in with short stories from the land. It took a couple turns and came to a conclusion I didn't expect which is always a nice surprise! Immensely readable, ideally with the lights on. 8/10, recommend reading at sunset for maximum chills.

Just started this one, and am delighted to discover that between every chapter is a short folktale! What a clever addition to an already intriguing tale, this is turning into a fantastic November read.

Bitch Planet vol 1 scratched the feminist-strength itch I've been feeling lately in this particular election season. I suspect under very different circumstances a certain nasty woman would have been called non compliant - the parallels are shocking and so fantastic. For anyone who has felt downtrodden or treated like less than because you 'don't comply' with media generated standards of beauty, behavior, etc, read Bitch Planet and rejoice!!

Phenomenal sci-fi with a focus on the feelings between the stars. This was a wonderful, emotional ride that felt like an extended, long-distance hug. I can't wait to read this again, cozied up with a mug of tea and a blanket. 12/10 WILL read again.
