#BookerLonglist #5

Very elegantly written, I became engaged in the book immediately I enjoyed following the narrator‘s struggle to live in NYC while she‘s still strongly rooted in the Albania she left behind. Het empathy for other refugees jeopardizes her mental wellbeing as well as her closest relationships. She moves between this empathy and self-preservation and there seems no closure. An impressive read.

BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes Yes! I did! And I think you will too but reviews are very mixed so I am not sure. And if you have a lot other unread books to read, I wouldn‘t put this one on top! 1mo

Graywacke I liked this one a great too. Nice to see this! 1mo
LeeRHarry Good to hear you liked it. This is one of two on the longlist I have on my shelves. I think what initially drew me to this one was the theme of immigration and that sense of where do you call home. 1mo

So sad..this book had more info than I thought...RIP Susan, Charlie and Braden. Sad that Susan has never been found.

Wow. I was expecting a twist, because that‘s FM‘s style but I‘m almost speechless. What a fantastic ending! I devoured it in just over a day. 5 stars, and hell yeah for vigilante justice. Book #27 in 2025

Starting book #27 of the year.

I found a new artist to listen to while reading.

And I've got the cozy vibes going strong with the purple lights and candles going.

#ReadAway2024

Another book finished earlier in the week & my 3rd August #Roll100 book (#27). I‘m glad I finally read it since I got it in an #Aardvark box last October, drawn to the cover, family “cult” in the blurb & the author (although I buy her books without seeming to move them off my TBR). Dark, twisty & kind of fun if you like cults, mild horror & family drama. I won‘t go into the details as it‘s better to go in blind, but I liked it. 👍🏼

Reggie I was telling a friend about this at work and the cult part and what made me laugh was when they‘re doing the prayer when she‘s back for the wedding rehearsal dinner instead of saying amen, they say hail Satan. I had no idea it was going there. So funny. 14mo
DebinHawaii @Reggie Hah! I started cracking up too at that! 😂😂😂 I thought it was totally going fundamentalists & they were-just for the “other team!” 14mo

August #Roll100 books

I‘ve read #28 already. I usually go up/down one to replace it but #29 was rolled and I‘ve already read #27 as well.
