I didn‘t like this book as much as when I read it 10ish years ago, but I do still think it has value.

Interesting but not overly surprising information about people classified as givers, takers, or matchers. Did I miss the part about how to figure out which one I am? I feel I could be any one of the three depending on the circumstances.
Working on finishing another gem! The message is clear - BE A GIVER NOT A TAKER!!!!!
I came across Adam Grant's name while reading Deep Work. He is an organizational psychologist with a couple of books out and a podcast. This book defines people as Givers, Takers, and Matchers. Listening to the audiobook while cleaning & sealing the deck. Love the concept but the constant flow of examples is getting a little tiresome. The stories are interesting, there are just so many!
The pic is after cleaning but before sealing. 🙌
Since my kindle battery died, even though I thought I had as charging it, I will return to Give and Take for my evening reading. I do like this book, but I get so aggravated when I read about the Takers.
My travel goals and work responsibilities have affected my reading goals this month, but I am determined to get back on track this weekend. BTW, don‘t even ask about the exercise goals - they are in bad shape😀
Happy Weekend!
This is a great chapter!!!! I think people often underestimate others and can‘t see potential. I see this a lot of educators underestimate potential in children.
Givers, by default, see the potential in others!!!! I want to work for a giver!!!!
Spotting and cultivating talent is so important. I don‘t understand why so many people prefer to be competitive and refuse to work together to bring others up. Why are people so threatened by other people being successful- can‘t we all be successful? Be a giver!!!!
Finally, I am curling up with a book! Household chores are nearly done. Sore legs have recovered from yesterday‘s March For Our Lives (7.5 Miles of walking) and 4 hours standing.... now time to break in reading glasses and try to finish reading this book.
Although schools are closed today because of snow, I have to go to work because twelve-month employees are two hours delayed. This gives me some morning reading time and this is the book I‘m trying to get through. I‘m reading five different books right now and each day I read a different one.
This morning I‘m finding myself very indecisive. I can‘t decide if I should read Give and Take or Italian Ways. I‘m in the middle of both of them and I really want to finish them both, but I don‘t have enough time today to finish either of them. I‘ll probably end up reading a little of both and not making significant progress in either.
“The takers are black holes”
“The givers are suns”
Are you a giver, taker, or matcher????
Today‘s Reading Goal: Finish at least one of these, but read both! Plus, laundry and groceries- these are secondary goals. Happy Sunday!
I am really enjoying this book! I am categorizing coworkers into these categories. I am not sure if this is good or bad.
I had a weekend reading plan, but I got distracted by this lovely book on my shelf. I heard Adam Grant speak 2 years ago, got him to autograph his book, but never read it. Now, I am reading it with the other 6 unfinished books I am reading. Food for thought: are you a giver or a taker or a matcher?
I love reading #AdamGrant but this is taking it to another level!!
Seriously, you can tell who's giver and taker, just by looking at FB profile :) #AmReading
This book gives a great perspective on, you guessed it, giving and taking. I've always had an issue with giving too much and being too stubborn to take anything in return, but of course giving too much isn't healthy anyways. If you think you have an issue with either side, I totally recommend this.
