Nanjing: The Burning City
Nanjing: The Burning City | Ethan Young
3 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
After the bombs fell and shook the walls of Nanjing, the Imperial Japanese Army entered and seized the Chinese capital. Through the dust of the demolished buildings, screams echo off the rubble. Two abandoned Chinese soldiers are trapped and desperately outnumbered inside the walled city. What they'll encounter will haunt them. But in the face of horror, they'll learn that resistance and bravery cannot be destroyed by the enemy. Ethan Young (Tails) delves into World War II's forgotten tragedy, the devastating Japanese invasion of Nanjing, and tells a heart-wrenching tale of war, loss, and defiance. Beautifully illustrated in black and white.

A good introductory glimpse into the tragedy of the atrocities of Nanjing. Nothing too in-depth. Very tastefully done albeit brief & only barely scraping the surface of this tragedy but definitely something to get your foot in the door. I hold in great esteem War portrayals that show both sides w/out a clear hero or villain because war isn‘t black & white it‘s chaos through & through, & w/that the spectrum is obliterated beyond such feeble things.

Kristy_K Does this have to do with the Nanjing Maasacrw in 1937 and the Ten Thousand People Pits? I‘m reading a autobiography right now that mentioned those and want to find a book that goes into more detail. 6y
MiyakoBunny @Kristy_K It does, but it‘s only an introductory into it. It‘s very brief. I don‘t know if you‘ve read it but another more detailed book concerning it may interest you-It‘s called “The Rape of Nanjing” 6y
Kristy_K @MiyakoBunny I haven‘t read that, but just added it to my tbr. Thanks! 6y
MiyakoBunny @Kristy_K No problem 🤗🌸 6y

Nanjing is one of the atrocities that is hardly ever spoken of, much less taught, in regards to World War II. This comic is a quick read, but it should be valued like a gallery in a museum. Each scene is the raw emotions of the survivors and victims, not the victors.

A really good read if you're interested in learning more about what happened in Nanjing. It's an adult graphic novel really well done, the content is quite violent. A short, but meaningful read!
