Mehso-so

American-born Chinese Rachel Chu discovers the values and decision-making processes of the wealthy Singaporean society.
Pros: funny because it picks fun at stereotypes of wealthy classes through much of Southeast Asia
Cons: joke drags on too long, Rachel Chu is ridiculously clueless or ignorant for a NYU professor, many points of views make for slow pace story

Panpan

In this #contemporary #retelling of #PeterPan, the cast (minus the entire tribe of natives and Capt. Smee) is reimagined on the #beaches of #California. Although it makes for a good #beachread, it hardly holds any contextual similarities to the original story aside from their names. None of the characters were likeable, the romance was quick-paced and linear, and I felt no sympathy for the rich, privileged protagonist. Not a recommended read.

Pickpick

As a 1960s children classic and award winner, I was concerned (or intrigued) by the outdated use of "Indians" or how the context of the story would be presented. However, I did NOT expect it to be a fabulous Robinson Crusoe tale, centering on the wonderful strengths of a lone female protagonist. It would be inaccurate to call this an adventure. It's a SURVIVAL story in various influential aspects.

Nanjing is one of the atrocities that is hardly ever spoken of, much less taught, in regards to World War II. This comic is a quick read, but it should be valued like a gallery in a museum. Each scene is the raw emotions of the survivors and victims, not the victors.

To join #GiveaScaryBook, I'm passing this classic to one of my students. With horror and romance combined, along with several performance art pieces tied to the story, I hope they will enjoy this. Props to First Book and @outofprint for this campaign! #allhallowsread

Set as a 1900s #fantasy #steampunk comic about gripping the human psyche during/after war. Some themes include #feminism, #racism, political interests, and a touch of #animism/shamanism? With almost an all-female cast of characters in an alternate #Asia, it's one of my "I WILL KILL FOR MORE" reads.

BillBlume Loving this series, too. It's beautiful and brilliant. 8y

Such a tremendous insightful book into international relations. His book goes through a concept of order in various regions - Europe, Middle East, Asia, USA - and how the cultural and historical impressions have affected power relationships today.
Generally, Kissinger's latest work is quite profound, despite a few blind spots. For a good study in pure realism, this read is a necessity.
