My daughter has a friend over and I am tackling the messy corner of my bedroom. I uncovered this gem from a large pile of books that need shelving and sorting. I‘m bumping this WAY up my TBR list.

I love Weston's tween novels. This is her newest and I'm loving it. Sofia is fourteen, which is hard enough, but she's dealing with the unexpected death of her mother along with the usual fourteen year old stuff. Tween readers will be rooting for Sofia and may have some of their own questions answered as she navigates first kisses, boy drama and other teen drama.

Speed of Life is both heartbreaking and heartwarming and it's written by the Dear Carol columnist from Girls' Life!

The setting is New York from one Christmas to the next-life after losing your Mom at age 14

The best book I read was Speed of Life! It‘s a great middle grade / young adult read!

It was so handy having Dear Kate just a click away! She was friendly, free and full of answers. And so many subjects were easier to type about than talk about! It felt good to be able to confide in her online about anything. It was better than in person could ever be. After all, I could never in a million years ask a question like that to someone I'd have to face in real life.

What happens when a teen opens up to a stranger only to discover she may become her stepmother. Issues of LGBTQ, blended families, & grief.

I got to read this before its March 2017 release thanks to #NetGalley and it was a slam dunk for me. I'd say it's good for middle school through adult. The premise feels very fresh: a girl whose mom has died turns to a magazine columnist ("Ask Kate") for advice, but then her dad starts dating her. It weaves in blended families, bilingualism, LGBT topics, public versus private schools, and dealing with loss. Just a lovely book!
