Call of The Wild, White Fang
Call of The Wild, White Fang | Jack London
10 posts | 41 read | 4 to read
The Call Of The Wild is the story of Buck, a dog stolen from his home and thrust into the merciless life of the Arctic north to endure hardship, bitter cold, and the savage lawlessness of man and beast. White Fang is the adventure of an animal -- part dog, part wolf --turned vicious by cruel abuse, then transformed by the patience and affection of one man. Jack London's superb ability as a storyteller and his uncanny understanding of animal and human natures give these tales a striking vitality and power, and have earned him a reputation as a distinguished American writer. From the Paperback edition.

The Call of the Wild is the story of Buck, a tame dog, who is sold into the Northland during the Klondike gold rush. It is a short, compact, enjoyable story. White Fang is the story of a wolf who comes to tolerate man. I agree with most other reviews that prefer Call to White Fang. The first half of White Fang is just too slow. It only picks up about half way through when White Fang runs into Beauty Smith. Then it's a fast-paced romp.

They're like, the same book, but flipped. I prefer the born wild, is broken, fights hard, becomes a pet and is loved version of as to the born and loved in captivity, stolen, worked hard and then finding freedom. Which, is odd cause most prefer COTW right?

I have tried and tried to read this with my kids, but alas. I don‘t typically connect with books that have animals as lead characters. I just don‘t.

This is my daughter‘s FAVORITE.

I respect the heck out of this story and Jack London. I do!! And I love this time period-1800‘s, Gold Rush, etc. But after two weeks of this (excellently narrated) audio, I‘m only an hour into it. I‘ve also tried with print and ebook. I just can‘t keep going.

Tamra You gave it the college try! I haven‘t read it either. 5y

#junetunz day 2 - #wolves

I read White Fang for school in a cabin in the mountains on a church youth trip. I'm not saying there's an ideal way to read any given book, but that was certainly one of them.

Dog eared pages is another one of my book pet peeves. This is my husband's book, so I try not to let it bother me. 😉 #marchintoreading #bookishpetpeeve #dogear @RealLifeReading
