This has been sitting on my bedside table partially read now for over a year. I can‘t lie to myself anymore that I‘m going to finish it. There are so many other things to read! 📚

mcipher That‘s such a freeing feeling when you make that call, isn‘t it?! 6y

Evidently, this statue, Bacchus with Satyr, was considered sixteenth century "overt erotica." You go, Isabella de Medici. XXX ?

I started this book a few months ago, but took a break when the first few chapters were barely about the book's title character and definitely not about murder. I returned to it this morning, and I'm glad I did because the author is starting to focus on Princess Isabella de Medici. #backontrack #amreading

So far, this book has had a lot of history, politics, architecture, and food, but not a single murder! I mean, I like history, politics, architecture, and food, but I also like me some true crime.

CocoReads When I read Devil in the White City, I just wanted to skip to all the murder stuff myself. Lol 8y
Texreader Especially if murder is in the title!! 8y
ReadosaurusText @CocoReads I'm glad you commiserate! I want the drama! I mean, the food stuff is interesting for sure, but we also need more stories of women in this era of history. 8y

zsuzsanna_reads Alison Weir's Mary Queen of Scots was a slow build up to the murder with not many frills - she didn't even say what Mary wore to her weddings! 7y
ReadosaurusText @zsuzsanna_reads Ooh! Interesting. I wonder if there is no historical record about what she wore to the wedding? That seems weird, though. 7y
