The last section of this sweet memoir includes a detailed description of the family's yearly trip to Cornwall, and it made me immediately want to take a vacation to some lovely, #bucolic countryside. Those few chapters alone made the entire book worth reading for me. Photo is an old postcard of a view near the author's family estate. #BeautifulWords

In the middle of an upbeat and fondly nostalgic chapter about family trips to Cornwall, this stopped me in my tracks. #currentlyreading #persephonebooks

Mehso-so

In this sweet little book, readers are presented a first-hand account of what daily life was like as a young girl in Victorian England - written when the author was much older. It made me reflect on the technological and societal advances since then, as well as how things haven't changed much in the 140 years since.
