Hit the used bookstore today (a bittersweet experience for a claustrophobic reader). “Sold” many books (allegedly a check will be in the mail at some future date). Two of the five books I bought were on my list walking in, which is a pretty good ratio, tbh. #bookhaul

pickRiding The Rap is a very typical Elmore Leonard book, with dumb criminals trying to pull off even dumber schemes. But this one has U.S. Marshall Raylan Givens on their trail. Unlike with Pronto (the novel this is a sequel to), I could hear Timothy Olyphant deliver every line and picture him adjusting his hat throughout. That, plus a breezy plot and the signature Elmore Leonard writing, makes Riding The Rap worthy of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2.
Having finished my re-watch of the final season of Justified, I decided to start the only Raylan Givens novel I haven't read yet: Riding The Rap. A direct sequel to Pronto (which introduced the character), it's very different in tone from the show (which was adapted from the story Fire In The Hole and inspired the novel Raylan later) but it's very enjoyable. I chose this photo because it's Raylan in Miami, which is the setting for the book.
so-soThe male characters' gaze is a bit overwhelming (I really don't need to know how nice the body is of every female character they come into contact with), but Leonard really knows how to evoke a very specific character and time period in these novels. The dialogue is ace.
