#AutumnPlease! Day 24: #WorldPolioDay reminded me of Wilma Rudolph, Olympic champion and world‘s fastest woman, who suffered from polio as a child. Ever since she was a baby, Wilma had always been sickly, weighing only a little over four pounds at birth. Yet despite this, she remains a sprightly young girl who preferred jumping and running to simply walking. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7uT
I feel like this is a great example of a biography because it tells the life of Wilma Rudolph who over came her odds and achieved her goals. I also believe this is a great biography because all the facts it gives from her life.
I would read this to a second-third grade class to help build their self-esteem. I feel like at that age, children think they have to be the people in the magazines and they are not enough, so by reading this book, I thik it would help build them up.
“Wilma, that lively girl, would never walk again.“
I would love to have this book in my classroom so my students can learn that nothing holds you back! If you want something bad enough you can work hard for it!
Biography
Learn more about Wilma Rudolph, a champion athlete that had polio and thought she would never be able to walk again.
“She became accustomed to winning.”
The book was told is the most heart-warning (but not sugar coating) way.
I remember reading this book as a child and loving it. Not only did I love how much of an impact Wilma made, but I loved the illustrations.
#MarchIntoThe70s Day 25: Wilma Rudolph who suffered from polio as a child, is clearly #BornToRun. Not only did she get to remove the hateful leg brace, Wilma eventually led her women‘s basketball team to the Tennessee state championship, and earned herself a full athletic scholarship to Tennessee State University, becoming the first member of her family to attend college - and won 3 Gold Medals at the Olympics.
