1955. Two young couples move to the uninhabited, isolated fjord of Hedinsfjrur. Their stay ends abruptly when one of the women meets her death in mysterious circumstances. The case is never solved. Fifty years later an old photograph comes to light, and it becomes clear that the couples may not have been alone on the fjord after all... In nearby Siglufjrur, young policeman Ari Thr tries to piece together what really happened that fateful night, in a town where no one wants to know, where secrets are a way of life. Hes assisted by srn, a news reporter in Reykjavik, who is investigating an increasingly chilling case of her own. Things take a sinister turn when a child goes missing in broad daylight. With a stalker on the loose, and the town of Siglufjrur in quarantine, the past might just come back to haunt them. Haunting, frightening and complex, Rupture is a dark and atmospheric thriller from one of Icelands foremost crime writers. Traditional and beautifully finessed... morally more equivocal than most traditional whodunnits, and it offers alluring glimpses of darker, and infinitely more threatening horizons Independent Jonassons books have breathed new life into Nordic noir Sunday Express Bitingly contemporary in setting and tone Express A modern take on an Agatha Christie-style mystery, as twisty as any slalom... Ian Rankin A classic crime story seen through a uniquely Icelandic lens ... first rate and highly recommended Lee Child Chilling, poetic beauty... a must read! Peter James British aficionados of Nordic Noir are familiar with two excellent Icelandic writers, Arnaldur Indridason and Yrsa Sigurdardottir. Heres a third: Ragnar Jnasson ... the darkness and cold are palpable Marcel Berlins, The Times For fans of Trapped, Yrsa Sigurdardottir, Agatha Christie and Ann Cleeves

Another thrilling visit to Iceland! Policeman Ari Thor is chasing a 50 yr old murder mystery, & a child kidnapping, all while the town in under quarantine because a particularly virulent flu. He teams up with a TV investigative journalist to solve these & other crimes. This book in the series comes before a couple of others I have read, but that fact does not distract from the mysteries.

Bklover His books always make me want hot cocoa-even in August! ❄️☃️ 2y
kspenmoll @Bklover His descriptions of the landscape, weather, darkness, ice, walls of snow does call for a hot beverage to ward off the chill!!!! 2y

kspenmoll @Ruthiella I got some good reading in & they were able to patch it which is so much less expensive than a new tire!!! 2y

Another in the ari thor series, I've lost track of the translation/publication issue save that I've read the next bk two bks ago !
Anyway these are a very enjoyable and not dark series set in a very claustrophobic Icelandic town.
Definitely will read on but just lacks a bit of noir nastiness and villainy.

Cathythoughts I did read some of these ... good 👍🏻 but I agree , missing some darkness 3y

1. Rupture (Dark Iceland 4) by Ragnar Jonasson; Black Water Lilies by Michel Bussi

2. I‘m a sucker for a pretty cover, there are so many I love!! The Binding by Bridget Collins is a favourite.

3. Absolutely 😂

Just started this, the fourth in Ragnar Jónasson‘s Dark Iceland series, which I‘ve been reading in the last couple of weeks. I‘m 9 pages in, and finding out how the town in which it is set has had two cases of a highly infectious disease, and is in quarantine: business and schools closed, people social-distancing. ?

Read here in Singapore. I love everything Icelandic and this book did not disappoint . Not nearly as dark as some Icelandic books I have read. A perfect holiday read. Now I need a book for the trip home. 🇦🇺.

My favourite book in the Dark Iceland series so far. I liked the interweaving of the cold case and the present-day storylines. Well done!

ravenlee What is the first book in the series? 5y

This is another classic murder mystery with an icy Icelandic twist, so very perfect for a winter read. As always, the characterization is deep, rich and complex which adds another layer to the story. I can‘t say enough good things about this book or the author, just go ahead and read this series already.
