"I may sing a less cheerful song. But I will sing." And he did.
A noisy town elects a mayor who promises to quiet things down. His dictates make the town silent as a tomb until a rooster comes to crow. The mayor tries to silence the rooster but no matter what the mayor takes away the rooster still finds something to sing about. By the end, his courage inspires others to oust the mayor. I almost cried while reading this book at bedtime. #resist

There are always those who #resist being silenced,
who will crow out their truth,
without regard to consequence.
Foolhardy or wise, they are the ones
who give us the courage to sing.

I won't be able to convey how amazing this is, it really speaks to today. As the Mayor of a village makes new, stricter laws, a lone rooster keeps singing out, even as the Mayor takes things away from him. "But a song is louder than one noisy little rooster and stronger than one bully of a mayor"..."And it will never die -- so long as there is someone to sing it." It is brilliant that bravery and truth can reach out in a picture book.

La la la, reading this book at bedtime to my daughter, and it's amazing, and then we get to this author's note. Inspiring. And so so relevant.

YOU GUYS! This book! Everyone needs to read it now! It's about a happy little town who elects a new mayor. It's a kids book. It's a-fricking-mazing! Seriously- find it, read it.
