Fika: The Art of the Swedish Coffee Break, with Recipes for Pastries, Breads, and Other Treats
Fika: The Art of the Swedish Coffee Break, with Recipes for Pastries, Breads, and Other Treats | Anna Brones, Johanna Kindvall
12 posts | 8 read | 13 to read
An illustrated lifestyle cookbook on the Swedish tradition of fika--a twice-daily coffee break--including recipes for traditional baked goods, information and anecdotes about Swedish coffee culture, and the roots and modern incarnations of this cherished custom. Sweden is one of the world s top coffee consuming nations, and the twice-daily social coffee break known as fika is a cherished custom. Fika can be had alone or in groups, indoors or outdoors, while traveling or at home. A time to take a rest from work and chat with friends or colleagues over a cup and a sweet treat, fika reflects the Swedish ideal of slowing down to appreciate life s small joys. In this adorable illustrated cookbook, Anna Brones and Johanna Kindvall share nearly fifty classic recipes from their motherland from cinnamon buns and ginger snaps to rhubarb cordial and rye bread allowing all of us to enjoy this charming tradition regardless of where we live."

I have been very productive so far today. So, I've decided to take a nice little coffee break with a book, a decaf mocha and a piece of pound cake.

alisiakae Yum! Enjoy! 5y

I know there are mixed opinions here on Litsy about tagging books to fit a post (I like it and I do it. On the regular 🙃) I tagged his book yesterday because I thought it went nicely with my post about a coffee and snack break that accompanied my reading of a Swedish author‘s book. The description here on Litsy and elsewhere intrigued me so I checked it out today from my library. #blameitonlitsy

If a donut is wrong for an afternoon snack, I don‘t wanna be right 😛 Going to do a little postal book club journaling and wrap up Beartown, set in Sweden, by a Swedish author, translated from Swedish -ergo the chosen book 📓 📚 🐻 🍩 🇸🇪 ☕️ Side note: that book actually looks really good. We can all use a bit of Fika in our lives! ❤️

Reviewsbylola And that latte/cappuccino/whatever!! 😍😍 6y
Lola @Reviewsbylola It was a honey lavender latte which sounds weird but was soooooo good. Also, I forgot to request non-fat milk 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y

Happy Fat Tuesday! I made 40 cardamom buns for work, and half got ruined by a seagull ☹️

Although I knew of the word Fika before -- there's a coffee shop with the name up in Duluth -- I wasn't aware that it was an entire concept until I saw a friend write about it on Instagram as he was on vacation in Scandinavia. So of course, I look it up. Much like the English tea time, Fika basically means to slow down and take time to just enjoy the time you have...with coffee and baked goodies of course; and who wouldn't want that?

In Sweden they do a coffee break TWICE a day! And they actually sit down and have a snack. Legally, we all get two 10 minute breaks for an 8-hour day. But how many of you actually have time to drink coffee (if you can withstand the annoyed looks of coworkers who can't believe you have the nerve to take a break)?
I'm moving to Sweden. Who's with me? #packyourbags
