Another Time, Another Place

In the summer of 1944, three Italian prisoners of war are billeted in a remote village in the north-east of Scotland. For most of the locals, their arrival is of little interest, hardly disturbing the quiet routines of their isolated crafting community, but for the young farm-worker's wife who has to look after them, the Italians bring with them a tantalising glimpse of another, more exotic world, reawakening dreams of a future far removed from the harsh realities of crofting life.

Pickpick

This short book tells the story of an unnamed young woman, wife of a distant North East Scottish farmer. When 3 Italian pow's are posted on the farmland she builds a relationship with them. Beautifully told but also sparse in substance this was a bk I enjoyed + suspect needs a reread. Was recommended when I was on a janice Galloway 3 bk session + I heard her rave about it. I'd recommend for a gentle read with lots to think abt + writing to enjoy

#7days7books #7books7days Books that changed or impacted on me.

I think I probably read all of one book between starting A-levels & finishing university. Then I got a job in a public library. The staff-room table was the best place to rummage through what other people were reading, and this was one of the several that planted me firmly back in the book world.

Do you fancy posting your seven, @Itchyfeetreader ?
