How I Helped O.J. Get Away With Murder
How I Helped O.J. Get Away With Murder: The Shocking Inside Story of Violence, Loyalty, Regret, and Remorse | Mike Gilbert
6 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
You Don't Know the Full Truth About O.J. Simpson and the Murders that Gripped a Nation. But Mike Gilbert does, and after nearly two decades of being O.J. Simpson's sports agent, business advisor, and trusted confidant, Gilbert is breaking his silence and telling the full story of the man he idolized, but now despises. Gilbert's shocking tale is unlike anything you've read before; it isn't his "version" of what happened--it's the unvarnished truth. The truth about O.J., the murders, and the infamous trial. Not as Gilbert imagined or would like it to be, but how it actually was. Gilbert doesn't spare anyone, not even himself--he helped deceive the jury and feels deeply responsible for the "Not Guilty" verdict. So why is Gilbert speaking out now? Has he gone from sinner to saint? Is he making a play for sympathy or looking to make a quick buck? No. (Proceeds from this book are going to the March of Dimes and other selected charities with which Gilbert has long been associated.) Gilbert is writing this book because he regrets what he did for his adored, childhood idol. He can no longer find any excuse for how he has shielded O.J. Simpson; and he is determined that the full truth must now be told, including: * O.J.'s late night confession to Gilbert * How Gilbert was responsible for O.J.'s hand not fitting the murder glove * Why O.J. murdered Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman (it was more than jealousy) * Why Gilbert defended O.J. for so long--and what finally convinced him he could do so no longer * How O.J. ignored his financial obligations to the Goldman family and milked the tabloids for money * The real reason why an armed O.J. burst in on the memorabilia collectors in Las Vegas (Gilbert had what O.J. was looking for) Told with searing candor, this book leaves no one's reputation intact--not even Gilbert's. But he casts a glaring light on how celebrity can corrupt, how power can mislead, and how friendship and loyalty can be perverted. His book is meant to set the record straight, to lay to rest the ghosts of that dreadful night that have haunted him ever since, and to now play what little part he can to forward the process the of justice.

This is the fascinating account of OJ‘s former manager. He colluded with O.J. during the trial, and ultimately helped get him acquitted. I loved having the perspective of one of OJ‘s cohorts, but although Gilbert is now remorseful for how long he remained loyal to O.J., he also admits that he knew immediately that O.J. killed Nicole. I found that a tough pill to swallow. Apparently Gilbert is remorseful now, but I think it‘s all self serving.

Mdargusch I didn‘t realize any of his henchmen had admitted he was guilty! 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I remember this like it was yesterday... I was on maternity leave and watched it all day... 💔💔 4y
KT1432 Did he say OJ did it himself? I always thought he hired someone 4y

ljuliel Have you ever studied the video of Robert Kardashian‘s face when the jury reads the Not Guilty verdict ? There‘s another one for you that knew all along that he was helping to defend a guilty man. Also, have you listened to the podcast done last summer by Kim Goldman called Confronting OJ Simpson ? Quite interesting info in it. 4y
Reviewsbylola Yes, OJ did it himself, however the author frames it as OJ losing it in the moment and killing her in a crime of passion. Not premeditated. @lele1432 (edited) 4y
Reviewsbylola I have not but the author touches on it in this book so I will! He said Kardashian had already signed a book deal behind OJ‘s back so he really needed him to be found guilty. @ljuliel 4y
KT1432 Wow. Crazy so many people covered for him! @ljuliel I also thought Kardashian knew he was guilty as well smh 4y

MicheleinPhilly Fun fact: My wife was an au pair in Brentwood and lived next door to O.J. 😱 4y
Reviewsbylola I think I remember you saying that actually!! @MicheleinPhilly What was her impression of him? 4y
MicheleinPhilly I probably have told you that before. I like to throw that little factoid out at every appropriate opportunity. 😂 Very charismatic and very creepy. He used to chat her up out by the basketball court (BLONDE HOTTIE.) And this was during his civil trial so she already knew what he was. It grosses me out every time I think about it. 4y
Reviewsbylola Um if it were my wife, I would literally bring it up at every opportunity. 😆 I think his trial really killed him, as he wasn‘t anticipating the backlash when he was acquitted. And there was nothing more important to him than his image. @MicheleinPhilly 4y
Mdargusch So creepy @MicheleinPhilly and I‘m glad I happened to read this about your wife. I have never heard about that! 4y

Written by a defector of O.J's inner circle, Gilbert's revelations are shocking, to say the least. His theory of the infamous murder case is more plausible than the one presented by Clark and Darden. Gilbert is like Lady Macbeth- he cannot wash the blood of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman off his hands. A must read for those interested in the Simpson double murder trial as well as the armed robbery for which Simpson is imprisoned.

"The classic theme here is that we worshipped false idols, false gods. We reached for the glittering things that would be our downfall, rather than the true things we could build lives from. It was a hell of a ride, and it was a ride to hell."

"As the years rolled by, O.J. Did not pay any of his mammoth debt, which I believe grew by almost $10,000 a day in interest alone. The Brown and Goldman families wanted to seize and auction not only O.J.'s most valuable possessions, but also the revered objects from his football career: things like his Heisman trophy, his NFL game-worn jerseys, & his original Buffalo Bills game-played footballs. O. J.Of course, was utterly defiant & uncooperative."

"We had him signing autographs for the entire duration of his incarceration, clear up to the day of the verdict. Business was booming. In fact, business had never been so good. O.J.'s statement that his autograph was worth more than any man's alive proved to be correct."

"O.J. wanted to begin signing autographs again, despite the fact that he was in jail - or rather, precisely because he was in jail. He wanted us to kick into high gear, and start making money through signature sales. He was saying: "Mike, get to work."
