Daphne du Maurier's novels often have many layers. The Parasites is no different and is a great exploration of character and the strong ties that connect an unconventional family to one another. This novel also contains much about du Maurier who said herself that Maria, Niall, and Celia were all facets of her own personality. It‘s a well written psychological exploration and a compelling read.

When your vintage shopping finds unintentionally color coordinate

That was really good. It was a bit slow in a few parts, but so unique in format and subject. I loved du Maurier‘s “Rebecca” and did not like “My Cousin Rachel,” so I‘m glad this one was good. It all starts with Maria‘s husband, Charles, calling her and her half-siblings, Niall and Celia, parasites. Then goes back and forth between past and present to reflect on that. Tragic and melancholy story of siblings in the show business and family worlds.

Another well-written passage, this time a conversation about people going to a theater after they die to watch their lives back.

Wow, just the way this page is written about the difference between sleep in childhood versus adulthood. Very melancholy.

I've never heard of this book and the blurb is intriguing :)
I think it's a very different read to her more renowned books and will be interested to see how it goes. It promises comedy and passion, and the reader is never sure who is narrating.

I played hooky from my housekeeping today and hit a used book sale at our local JCC. 😊

A creepy, strange novel about three siblings with an odd relationship to each other and to their famous parents. Daphne du Maurier is very good at this sort of thing.

(She is very good at every sort of thing as far as I'm concerned.)
