#JulyJazz Day 25: Last year I visited the Philippine booth which proudly showcases the Philippine #Flag during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. Husband drove us for 90 minutes (one way) so I can get the book gifted to me by a Filipina American novelist (Ninotchka Rosca) whose books were featured during the fair.

Chachic

Hi guys! Just wanted to write a brief note to mention that I live in the Philippines, as clearly stated on my Litsy profile. Over here, we don't have access to good public libraries. I'm saying this because I've gotten more than one comment recently on my posts saying that I should just borrow books from the library instead of waiting for Kindle deals. I'm sure you guys mean well but please don't assume that everyone has library access.

Smangela @Chachic thank you for the reminder! A frustrating situation I am sure 😕 8y
julesG I might be in the position of having a public library at hand, but it doesn't have a lot of English books. So I can fully relate to your problem. 😘 Why don't you send me an email? I might be able to send you a kindle book from time to time. JulesGDSide@gmail.com 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage We make assumptions that the conditions we enjoy are the same around the world. Thanks for the reminder that it isn‘t the case. I‘m glad you have Kindle deals as an alternative, though. 8y

Chachic @Smangela It is a frustrating situation to be in! Even more frustrating when I have to explain why I don't borrow from the library. 8y
Chachic @julesG I was following you before but might have accidentally clicked unfollow at some point? Apologies for that, I hope you don't find it weird.😕 I'm glad you can relate! I remember you mentioned before that you prefer reading in English instead of German. 8y
Chachic @BarbaraTheBibliophage I get it, when I first started blogging, I used to get shocked comments from US book bloggers whenever I mentioned that I don't have access to a good public library. So I think I should keep posting reminders whenever I get a comment about that here. 8y
Smangela @Chachic @BarbaraTheBibliophage definitely keep posting reminders!! Ignorance is not bliss ❤️ 8y
Johanna414 Lol why does anyone think that it‘s their business how you get your books? I‘m a school librarian and an avid library supporter, but I would never dream of telling someone else how they should conduct their own business. Weird. 8y
Chachic @Smangela Will keep it in mind! Thank you for wanting to be reminded of this.😊 8y
Chachic @Johanna414 I'm sure they mean well by suggesting the library as an option, it's just that I think there's no harm in checking first where a person is from instead of blindly making an assumption that I live in the US. 8y
LeahBergen Good for you! 👍🏻 We can all use reminders that Litsy is a global community. 8y
Chachic @LeahBergen Exactly, Litsy is an international community and its members are from different countries. 8y
