This may be a short audiobook, but there is so much packed in and it is gripping. Shalan did a phenomenal job narrating the novel. She brought Nell to life and I could really hear her awkward passiveness. She brought out the tension and terror felt by many. It is more of a psychological thriller than horror, and I would have liked a little more of the gory details, I still felt it was well written and narrated.

This shorty was fun! The twist is pretty easy to guess, but it was still enjoyable.

Nell has problems making friends. Nell finally starts making friends. Friends die. It is also the Summer of Sam in New York. Perfect read for an October night. 🖤🔪💉☠️

Does anyone else listen to The Books in the Freezer podcast and plan to participate in their #readathon? I‘ve finally nailed down my TBR for their challenges:

1. The Pretty Ones by Ania Ahlborn
2. The Devil and the Deep edited by Ellen Datlow
3. The Red Tree by Caitlin Kiernan
4. The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

A quick e-novella involving a social outcast and her mute brother during the summer of Sam. I figured out the twist fairly fast but the creep-factor was solid.
